Restaurants, caterers, and grocery stores contribute a significant amount to this total. In 2008, food service businesses and retailers wasted a combined total of 129 billion pounds of food. Nobody likes seeing this much food go to waste while so many struggle to get the food they need. That's why we created FlashFood, a mobile application and website designed to help food charities and volunteers reduce food waste and feed the hungry by coordinating rapid donations of perishable, surplus food donated by food service businesses.
