Role:
The Back of House Supervisor is responsible for assisting with the successful daily operations of the kitchen, in addition to their day-to-day duties as a cook. This individual acts as a leader amongst the Back of House team to assist in meeting and exceeding the expectations set forth by the Kitchen Manager in terms of daily preparation and execution of food items, managing food inventory levels, and maintaining proper sanitation and cleanliness throughout the kitchen. This role is key to our customers receiving their correct order, in line with our standards for quality and expedience, and directly impacts the overall guest experience.
The BOH Supervisor receives direct mentorship from the Kitchen Manager and primarily consists of peak-hour line shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership and supervision of all BOH team members, in addition to their duties as a cook.
- Performs their duties as a Cook to a high performance standard, serving as a role model for the standard of service.
- Verifies and audits the daily BOH opening/closing checklists.
- Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas.
- Helps to maintain daily preparation checklists and ensures adherence to recipes set forth by Kitchen Manager.
- Ensures food is prepared and plated to the expectations set forth by the Kitchen Manager and executed in a timely manner.
- Assists in supervision and direction of other back of house employee behaviors including, but not limited to, training and coaching on technical performance and norms.
- Ensures that proper food safety procedures and sanitation practices are being adhered to throughout the kitchen.
- Dictates and assigns additional tasks to back of house team members, as necessary.
- Implements and maintains adherence to new and existing company processes and policies.
- Continues to develop skills and acumen alongside the restaurant leadership team.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Kitchen Manager, or Restaurant General Manager.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of proper use and maintenance of all kitchen equipment with the ability to train others in their safe operation.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Two years of line cook experience in a full-service restaurant.
- Possess a genuine interest in honing and developing leadership skills.
- Ability to interact and communicate in a professional manner.
- Possess the ability to provide direction to others in a manner that will drive the correct behaviors.
- Possess an understanding of professional cooking, preparation techniques, and knife handling skills.
- Demonstrates responsible, ethical, and honest behavior.
- Possess the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and possess the ability to convert stressful situations into positive experiences.
- Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
- Possess strong organization and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess requisite state and county service permits.
- Must be able to deal with varied personalities in a high-stress environment.
- This position will spend a majority of the time standing.
- The individual must be able to transport up to 50 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds regularly.
- Works effectively both independently and as a team lead; drives success through accountability.
- A strong commitment to culinary knowledge and the career field, with an interest in self-development.
- Full-service restaurant leadership experience in a high-volume environment.
