We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer. You’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. In this role, you will write software and embedded software to drive the electronics which control parts of IonQ’s trapped ion quantum computers. You will have the opportunity to shape and build from the ground up small, medium and large scale embedded systems with the goal of supporting the increasing complexity, reliability, modularity, scalability and fidelity of our quantum computers.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary staff across a multi-disciplinary organization to accomplish shared goals
- Follow and help establish processes in keeping with best practices for code development, quality assurance, and documentation
- Contribute to design decisions in both firmware and physical infrastructure to build scalability, modularity, and reliability
- Contribute to code reviews in order to produce high quality software and professional development as a team
- Design, present, and discuss future development to an interdisciplinary team in order to ensure alignment with the larger project
You’d be a good fit with:
- Bachelors in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar
- 6+ years of experience working in Embedded Software or Firmware
- Good knowledge of C and C++. Good knowledge of Python or a similar scripting language
- Experience working with oscilloscopes and similar electrical lab equipment
You’d be a great fit with:
- Experience working with Rust, Golang, and other developing languages
- Experience with control systems, control loops, control theory
- Experience with mentoring, coaching, and teaching junior developers
- Experience with cloud-based systems and databases
- A background in robotics and/or computer vision
- A good understanding of operating system design and development
- A good understanding of compiler and assembler design and development
Location:
This is a hybrid role based at our office located in Bothell, WA with the option to work remotely when project needs allow. Some time in the lab will be necessary, specific time often flexible.

The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
