5th grade Math Teacher

Essential Functions


A 5th-grade math teacher is responsible for instructing students in mathematical concepts and skills, developing lesson plans, and assessing student progress. They create a positive learning environment, manage classroom behavior, and collaborate with other educators and parents. Effective communication, organizational skills, and a passion for mathematics are crucial for this role. 

Responsibilities


  • A strong understanding of 5th-grade math curriculum standards, including concepts like fractions, decimals, measurement, geometry, and algebraic thinking.
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts and problem-solving strategies relevant to the 5th-grade level.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies for diverse learners, including those with special needs.
  • Familiarity with various assessment techniques to evaluate student learning and inform instruction.
  • Ability to create a positive and structured learning environment.
  • Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to use technology to enhance math instruction and engagement. 

Qualifications 


  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in mathematics education or a related field is typically required.
  • Certification/Licensure: Obtaining a state teaching certification or license for middle school mathematics is necessary for public school teachers.
  • Skills: Strong mathematical knowledge, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, classroom management abilities, and adaptability are essential. 

Physical Demands


  • Speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear and, sometimes, to sit. 
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print. 
  • Frequently bend, reach above the head, as well as forward, and use fine motor skills.
