SR. ELECTRONIC CONTROLS MANAGER - WALDO, AR

Maximize the profitability, reliability, and long-term performance of the mill by leading the strategy, design, and optimization of all control systems and automation processes. This role is responsible for improving uptime, advancing system capabilities, and aligning automation initiatives with business objectives. This position provides technical leadership and oversight for PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, industrial networks, and associated production systems. The Senior Electronic Controls Manager serves as the subject matter expert for mill-wide control systems, driving continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.

The salary range for this position is $114,750 -$191,250.The compensation range represents the low and high end of the bae compensation range for this position.  Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 20% of salary. 


Modify Control Systems & Software

  • Drive improvements in equipment reliability, uptime, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Work with PLCs – modify, write, troubleshoot ladder logic, upgrade hardware and software.
  • Work with VFDs – troubleshoot, configure, and upgrade.
  • Make PLC and VFD program modifications to improve efficiency.
  • Analyze production and equipment data to identify opportunities for optimization and cost reduction
  • Review and approve all new controls systems designs.
  • Lead integration of all new technology systems at the plant site.

Project/Research & Design

  • Responsible for design, installation and maintenance of all PLC and automation systems. Install interface computers for PLC and HMI systems.
  • Design modifications to the mill controls as needed.
  • Act as project manager for controls projects.
  • Own and lead the long-term controls and automation roadmap for the facility.
  • Establish site standards for PLC/HMI/VFD programming and documentation.

Assist Mill Personnel & Training

  • Promote safety throughout the mill- Ensure all control systems comply with safety standards and best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the mill tied to OEE, uptime and cost reduction.
  • Interact with maintenance, production, and management employees to solve problems.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to all maintenance and controls technicians.
  • Lead cross-functional troubleshooting efforts during major downtime events.
  • Gather, correlate and analyze data. Write reports from any software compiling data for mill personnel to make business decisions.
  • Assist in implementation of Predictive Maintenance, and Downtime Tracking, Data Collection, and monitoring of critical machines to improve machine efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Assist during critical breakdowns, maintenance days, and project installations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for new and existing control systems.
  • Serve as the primary controls resource during major breakdowns, outages, and critical events .
  • Foster strong collaboration between maintenance, production, and leadership teams.

Requirements


  • Associate degree preferred in Industrial Electronics and/or Automation.
  • 7-10 years of previous experience required in Industrial Electronics/Automation.
  • Advanced skills with Rockwell VFDs, PLCs, HMIs.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Excel, Word, AutoCAD.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer LAN and WAN networks.
  • Ability to install and troubleshoot industrial control circuits and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of 24VDC, 120VAC, and 480VAC power circuits.
  • Ability to understand and set priorities and handle multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to clearly present information in an understandable format to many levels of expertise to visualize a uniform goal.
