Duties and responsibilities
Daily/Weekly
- Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for an assigned portfolio of approximately 9 properties.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with property managers, regional managers, and other stakeholders.
- Review financial activity and provide guidance to Property Accountants on accounting issues and best practices.
- Mentor and support Property Accountants to ensure accuracy and consistency in financial reporting.
- Address questions and resolve issues related to financial results, escalating to the Regional or National Controller as needed.
Monthly/Quarterly/Annually
- Review monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and supporting schedules for assigned portfolio.
- Ensure accuracy of revenue and expense recognition, accruals, and overall financial presentation.
- Ensure timely completion of all reporting requirements in accordance with accounting calendar deadlines.
- Oversee and support the preparation of bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and fixed asset schedules.
- Coordinate and assist with audits by reviewing deliverables and providing explanations and supporting documentation.
- Lead or participate in special projects, process improvements, and system implementations.
- Show willingness to learn and adopt emerging technologies, including AI, to support continuous improvement in reporting and processes.
- Support and drive process standardization and automation initiatives within the accounting function.
- Escalate complex accounting or operational issues to the Regional or National Controller as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Controller, National Controller, or Chief Accounting Officer.
- Utilize data analytics and AI tools, where appropriate, to identify anomalies, improve reporting efficiency, and enhance financial insights.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property accounting.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
- Experience with property management/accounting systems such as OneSite, Entrata, MRI, or Yardi preferred.
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to review work, identify issues, and provide constructive feedback.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies, including AI tools, to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience using automation, data analytics, or AI-assisted tools in accounting or finance workflows.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on process efficiency and innovation.
