The Role and Impact
We are seeking a practical, highly organized
Part-Time In-House Paralegal
to support the company’s legal and compliance needs. This role will serve as the company’s primary internal legal support resource, working directly with the Founder/CEO and coordinating with outside counsel when specialized legal expertise is required.This role works closely with teams across the company—including Product, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Sales, HR, and Operations—to help ensure contracts, policies, and business practices are well-documented and legally sound.The ideal candidate is a certified paralegal by the NALA, has 5+ years of Paralegal experience, is comfortable operating independently while managing a wide range of legal and administrative matters, and translating legal processes into clear, actionable steps for a growing business.This is a great part-time opportunity for someone who has the Paralegal experience outlined below and has now gone back to school to pursue their JD.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Management
- Draft, review, and manage routine commercial agreements (NDAs, vendor agreements, service agreements, partnership agreements, etc.)
- Partner with Sales, Finance, and Operations to support contract development and execution
- Maintain contract templates and help standardize legal terms across the company
- Track contract lifecycle including renewals, expirations, and obligations
- Coordinate with outside counsel on complex contract matters when needed
Cross-Functional Legal Support
- Work closely with Finance and Accounting on contract obligations, payment terms, and documentation
- Partner with Sales on customer agreements, NDAs, and deal-related documentation
- Support HR as needed with employment-related documentation, policies, and internal agreements
- Assist Operations with vendor agreements and operational compliance needs
Legal Operations
- Maintain and organize the company’s legal files, records, and document repositories
- Track legal matters and maintain status updates for leadership
- Support implementation of simple legal processes and documentation standards
Compliance & Corporate Governance
- Assist with corporate filings, entity records, and board documentation as applicable
- Help monitor basic regulatory or compliance requirements relevant to the business
- Maintain company policies and ensure documentation is up to date
- Conduct periodic reviews of the company website and other public content to identify potential compliance gaps and related regulatory risks that could create legal exposure
Outside Counsel Coordination
- Serve as the primary internal liaison with outside law firms
- Prepare materials and background information for outside counsel
- Help manage legal invoices and track legal spend
Risk & Issue Support
- Flag potential legal or contractual risks to the Founder/CEO
- Assist with dispute documentation or basic legal research when issues arise
- Support preparation of materials for legal review when necessary
Qualifications
- 5+ years of paralegal experience, preferably including corporate or commercial legal work
- Experience supporting legal matters independently or in small legal teams
- Highly developed contract drafting and review experience
- Experience working effectively with cross-functional business teams
- Excellent organizational and document management skills
- Ability to translate legal concepts into practical business guidance
- High level of discretion when handling confidential matters
- Comfortable working directly with executive leadership
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in the English language
- Must be fully authorized to work in the US without sponsorship at any time
- Must be willing to work 15-17 total hours across 2 days/week, based on business need
- Must be willing to work on-site at our Austin, TX office (no relocation assistance provided)
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Paralegal certificate (CP from NALA) or equivalent legal training & experience
- Experience working in a startup or small company environment
- Familiarity with contract management tools and/or document management systems
- Experience coordinating with outside counsel across multiple legal areas
This is an Hourly, part-time position. The expected hourly rate will be between $50 and $60 based on total qualification factors.
