Senior Technical Supervisor

Position Summary:


The Senior Technical Supervisor has overall responsibility for laboratory operation, and coordinates and manages the general business and operation of the assigned laboratory including supervision of technical supervisors of laboratory departments. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain final responsibility for day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
  • Lead/Drive LEAN/Six Sigma culture – Continuous process improvement and commitment to quality.
  • Responsible for management and oversight of a team of qualified laboratory professionals who maintain laboratory operations.
  • Responsible for maintaining and supporting sufficient and competent laboratory personnel.
  • Ensures effective remedial and corrective action programs in the laboratory.
  • Work with Genova Diagnostics leaders as the laboratory site representative to plan and implement projects, including preparation of written requirements associated with specific project goals, gathering status reports, developing solutions to problems or issues that arise.
  • Provide regular and timely updates to appropriate GDX personnel, and answer inquiries.
  • Schedule and lead meetings associated with laboratory operations.
  • Maintain final responsibility for ensuring that all laboratory operational tasks are satisfactorily completed before new products are taken to market.
  • Identify and monitor costs associated with laboratory operations.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory operational budget.
  • Works closely with the V.P. Laboratory Operations, Laboratory Director, Technical Manager and/or Laboratory Supervisors and with other Genova Diagnostics personnel involved in projects or issues that impact the laboratory.

In coordination with the Facilities Laboratory Director:


  • Establishes policies and procedures for technical areas of the laboratory.
  • Assist in solving technical problems.
  • Maintains responsibility for overall laboratory quality, including quality control and quality assurance programs.
  • Leads the laboratory effort to develop systems to achieve performance objectives.
  • Responsible for participation in regular proficiency testing programs for the lab.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all records are up to date and available for inspection.
  • Ensures regular review of quality control for trends and problems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


He/she directly supervises the Technical Supervisors.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:    


This position requires a Ph.D., MS or BS in Medical Technology or a Chemical, Physical, Biological science from an accredited institution. Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience  and 7 years of clinical laboratory experience. Candidate must have leadership qualities, be adaptable to change and self-motivated.  Also must possess communication, motivational, technical, human relations, conceptual and decision making skills. LEAN/Six Sigma experience in a laboratory setting preferred.

Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to learn and utilize the laboratory information system.

On occasion the individual may be called upon to handle biological specimens. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
