Responsible for leading and overseeing compliance functions supporting Specialty Insurance, including both Admitted Property & Casualty and Surplus Lines offerings. Responsibilities include conducting regulatory research, overseeing program development, reviewing and approving forms and rates, managing DOI filings and objections, and providing compliance advisory support throughout program lifecycles. This role partners with stakeholders across Fortegra, including Underwriting, Operations, Actuarial, Licensing and Claims to ensure state-specific compliance and adherence to all applicable insurance laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Requires extensive (7-10 years) experience in insurance compliance
- Strong Surplus Lines experience preferred
- Familiarity with State laws and DOI regulations relating to E&S products and admitted P&C insurance products
- Familiarity with agent licensing and related requirements.
- Comparable experience in technical drafting, such as attorney or paralegal, are acceptable
- Effective communication and writing skills, including grammatical usage, persuasive regulatory correspondence and professional presentation
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret statutes and recommend actionable solutions
- Ability to work independently while leading cross-functional initiatives
- Ability to conduct legislative, regulatory and statutory research to ensure product and licensing compliance
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously
- Ability to preserve and protect proprietary and confidential information
- Experience overseeing MGAs preferred
Primary Job Functions:
- Develop, review and approve forms, endorsements, rates/rules and underwriting guidelines for prospective and existing Specialty programs
- Oversee submission of form and rate filings with State Insurance Departments and manage responses to DOI objections and inquiries
- Provide compliance oversight throughout the Specialty program lifecycle, including Discovery, Proposing, Onboarding, Live and Producing stages
- Conduct regulatory research and interpret state insurance statutes to provide guidance to Underwriters, Licensing, Claims and Operations teams
- Review sample and initial live policies to confirm proper use of approved forms, surplus lines disclosures, and adherence to underwriting guidelines
- Monitor state insurance department bulletins for regulatory changes
- Oversee ISO form usage and sponsorship requirements where applicable
- Maintain record of approved forms, forms lists, manuals and compliance documentation
- Assist with admitted program updates, including new filings, revised rates/rules and form changes
- Provide regulatory guidance in connection with MGA/program administrator oversight
- Assist with program terminations, including cancellation/non-renewal notice requirements and regulatory documentation
- Coordinate, prepare and distribute bulletin notifications as required
