About the Role
We’re seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Legal & Compliance to lead and scale Niural’s legal, regulatory, and compliance functions. This role will shape the legal infrastructure of a fast-growing Series A startup operating in a complex global regulatory environment — including US PEO, global payroll, EOR, contractor compliance, tax, and benefits across multiple jurisdictions. You’ll partner closely with the leadership team, influence product strategy through a compliance lens, and build a world-class legal and compliance organization as we expand.This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in high-growth environments, can balance risk with innovation, and has deep subject-matter expertise in employment law, regulatory compliance, contracts, and global operations.
Responsibilities
Legal Strategy & Leadership
- Lead Niural’s legal and compliance strategy, ensuring legal risk is identified, communicated, and mitigated across the business.
- Build and scale the legal and compliance organization — hiring, mentoring, and developing top talent across jurisdictions.
- Act as trusted legal advisor to executive leadership and cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Sales, Finance, People & Operations).
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Develop and maintain a robust compliance framework across US federal/state employment law, global labor regulations, tax, data privacy, AML/KYC, and fintech/payroll regulatory requirements.
- Monitor, interpret, and implement changes to relevant global laws and regulations affecting Niural’s products and services (e.g., payroll, EOR, PEO, contractor compliance).
- Partner with product and engineering teams to embed compliance and legal guardrails into platform design and features.
Contracts & Commercial Legal Support
- Own negotiation, drafting, and management of key commercial contracts, vendor agreements, customer terms, strategic partnerships, data processing agreements, and more.
- Advise on legal aspects of enterprise deals, pricing models, channel partnerships, integrations, and service terms.
Compliance Operations & Controls
- Establish compliance governance, policies, and procedures across Legal, HR, Finance, Sales, and Operations.
- Lead internal compliance monitoring, audits, risk assessments, and remediation programs.
- Design, deliver, and oversee compliance training for employees and leadership.
External Relationships & Licensing
- Manage relationships with external counsel, regulators, auditors, and industry bodies.
- Support licensing, registrations, and regulatory engagement in key markets and verticals.
About You
You’ll thrive in this role if:
- You have 5+ years of legal experience (in-house and/or law firm) with significant exposure to labor/employment law, compliance, fintech/payroll services, and commercial contracting.
- You have a track record building or scaling legal and compliance programs at high-growth technology or workforce-services startups.
- You can translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into pragmatic business solutions without slowing growth.
- You are energized by ambiguity and excited to build frameworks and best practices from scratch.
- You have exceptional communication skills and can partner with technical and business teams effectively.
- You are comfortable operating in a fast-paced, cross-border business with global regulatory challenges.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with global EOR/PEO platforms, payroll technology, HR tech, or workforce compliance.
- Background in data privacy (GDPR, CCPA), fintech payments regulation, or employment tax compliance.
- Prior startup experience, especially in Series A/B hyper-growth environments.
