Summary: 

The Health & Wellness Coach supports the daily health, readiness, and performance of pit crew athletes within the Hendrick Motorsports Athletic Department. This role works collaboratively with strength and conditioning coaches, the dietitian, and performance staff to assist with training operations, recovery protocols, nutrition support, and athlete monitoring. In addition to athlete-focused responsibilities, the position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, organized, and high-standard Human Performance Center through regular facility inspections, equipment readiness, and operational support.
The Health & Wellness Coach will independently conduct non-clinical wellness observations and monitoring (e.g., recovery readiness, hydration habits, nutrition compliance, workload tolerance, and general wellness indicators) to help inform individualized wellness and recovery goals. While not performing medical evaluations, the role independently identifies trends, flags concerns, and adjusts daily wellness strategies within established performance guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following:


  • Provide day-to-day wellness coaching and guidance to athletes within scope, including education on recovery behaviors, hydration strategies, fueling habits, sleep routines, and heat preparedness. Coaching is not prescriptive medical care but does require professional judgment, situational decision-making, and individualized athlete interaction.
  • Collaborate regularly with strength coaches, performance staff, and the contracted dietitian to align wellness strategies with training demands, recovery plans, and performance goals. This includes independently coordinating nutrition operations, managing product selection and availability, and ensuring alignment between wellness initiatives and performance programming.
  • Monitor athlete wellness and provides support and feedback regarding goal alignment
  • Bolster the holistic health, wellness, and performance of pit crew athletes through daily engagement in training, recovery, and facility operations.
  • Oversee nutrition product management (hydration, supplements, protein products), facility wellness standards, and coordination of the contracted dietitian’s day-to-day services, all of which require judgment, prioritization, and decision-making beyond task-based execution.
  • Manage the inventory control, usage tracking, and reordering of nutritional products, including hydration solutions, supplements, protein powders, and fueling items, ensuring accurate documentation and cost-conscious purchasing.
  • Monitor product storage, organization, and expiration dates to maintain safety, quality, and compliance with organizational and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct hourly walkthroughs (“sweeps”) of the entire Human Performance Center to ensure cleanliness, organization, equipment readiness, and overall safety across all areas, including the gym, dry recovery spaces, and wet recovery areas.
  • Assist with the setup, breakdown, and organization of training sessions, drills, testing stations, and performance equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Provide hands-on assistance to strength, conditioning, and performance coaches during workouts and drills, gaining applied experience in motorsports-specific performance training.
  • Observe and monitor athlete exercise technique under the supervision and guidance of full-time coaching staff, assisting with corrections and cueing as directed.
  • Support athlete recovery protocols, including mobility work, regeneration sessions, and heat training protocols, following established department guidelines.
  • Accurately input and manage data from athlete testing, training sessions, recovery metrics, and wellness logs using approved tracking systems.
  • Assist in maintaining performance equipment, recovery tools, and shared spaces to uphold professional standards and operational readiness.
  • Participate actively in educational sessions, in-services, and staff meetings to support ongoing professional development and alignment with department objectives.
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and a team-first mindset while contributing to a positive, disciplined, and athlete-centered training environment.

Attendance Expectations:


The position requires regular and predictable attendance.  Role is not remote and must regularly be performed in the assigned office location. Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays. 

Physical Demands:


The ability to work in an active, physically demanding athletic performance environment. Employees must regularly stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and move throughout the Human Performance Center while supporting training sessions, recovery operations, and facility oversight. The positions require frequent handling, setup, and transport of training and recovery equipment, including the ability to lift, push, or carry weighted items and supplies. Individuals must be capable of demonstrating exercises, assisting athletes during training, and maintaining awareness of safety across gym, dry recovery, wet recovery, and heat-exposure environments.

Prolonged periods of activity, exposure to temperature-controlled and humid recovery areas, and extended workdays aligned with training schedules are expected

Environment Demands:


Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment..  May be present at pit practice on occasion, which will result in extremely loud race car noises requiring hearing protection.

Verbal and Writing Ability:


Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
