What you’ll do…
The Electrical Safety Specialist will support operations, maintenance and engineering teams in the development and performance of the company’s electrical safety program. This role will focus on partnering with operations to strengthen competencies through training, field engagement and consistent application of best practices and continuous improvements concerning electrical safety. The hybrid position will be based out of our Houston location and report to the Sr Manager of Safety and Health.
The position receives direct technical guidance from an internal electrical subject matter expert. This role requires travel to construction sites, operational sites, customer locations at least 33% of the time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing, implementing, and improving company-wide electrical safety programs and training.
- Serving as the primary professional for electrical safety policies, procedures, and governance.
- Conducting field and site visits to observe work practices, identify electrical hazards, and recommend risk-mitigation strategies.
- Performing and validating electrical risk assessments and hazard analyses.
- Translating field observations and SME guidance into practical procedures, tools, and resources.
- Supporting and delivering theoretical electrical safety training across multiple levels of the organization.
- Assisting in evaluating worker competency through observations and assessments.
- Ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E requirements.
- Supporting investigations of electrical incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Auditing LOTO/LOTOTO activities, energized work, JSEA, and high-hazard assessments, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Coaching teams on safe electrical work practices, including arc flash protection and PPE usage.
- Supporting electrical PPE assessments, testing, inspections, and program documentation.
- Leading or supporting new electrical safety initiatives.
- Coaching supervisors and frontline employees to reinforce safe electrical behaviors.
- Safely operating a motor vehicle to support field activities.
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Either: 2+ years of experience in electrical safety training, compliance, or theory, OR 3+ years of experience in safety management, electrical construction, or industrial environments.
- Experience implementing or improving LOTO/LOTOTO programs. ( lock and tag out)
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA electrical safety standards.
- Ability to travel approximately 33%.
- Ability to promote a strong culture of electrical safety across all levels of the organization.
- Physical requirements and working conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry 20 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Preferred Skills:
- Have working knowledge of NFPA 70B and related electrical maintenance standards.
- Bring experience with NEC, NESC, and/or IIEE standards.
- Have hands-on experience in low, medium, and high-voltage environments.
- Have developed or supported a Qualified Electrical Worker program.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering teams on equipment or technology changes.
- Are familiar with adult learning principles and competency-based training.
- Have experience supporting or reviewing Arc Flash studies.
- Strong field presence and credibility with technicians and leaders.
- Strong coaching, communication, and influencing skills.
