Must be with 50 miles of San Antonio, Texas (100% remote for residents in this radius)

Clearance:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Position Summary:


 We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Document Specialist Technical Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate will excel in creating, curating, and maintaining technical documentation that supports the organization’s products, services, and internal processes. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including development, business analyst, and customer support, to ensure clear and concise communication of complex technical information. The Document Specialist Senior will also mentor junior writers and contribute to establishing best practices for documentation processes.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including user guides, installation manuals, FAQs, and online help systems.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly content tailored for a variety of audiences, such as developers, system administrators, and end-users.
  • Develop visual aids, such as diagrams, flowcharts, and screenshots, to complement written materials.
  • Partner with developers, project managers, and subject matter experts to gather and validate technical information.
  • Actively participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and usability testing to gain insights into product functionalities and updates.
  • Work closely with training teams to align documentation with organizational goals and branding standards.
  • Establish and refine documentation standards, templates, and workflows to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Implement feedback from internal and external users to improve documentation usability and relevance.
  • Evaluate and incorporate new tools and technologies to enhance documentation production and accessibility.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior technical writers.
  • Lead documentation initiatives, including large-scale projects, content migrations, or localization efforts.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and adheres to company standards.
  • Perform thorough reviews of content to identify inconsistencies, technical errors, or unclear language.
  • Assist with Ad-Hoc testing of software systems to gain a better understanding of system utilization which also translates into better user manuals and documentation

Qualifications:


  • Proficiency with documentation tools such as Adobe, Microsoft Word, and Confluence.
  • Experience in technical writing, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), version control tools (e.g., Git), and markup languages (e.g., HTML, XML, Markdown).
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts and languages (e.g., Python, Java, or REST APIs) is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Knowledge of localization and translation workflows.
  • Certification in technical communication or related areas.
