About the Internship
Are you a student planning to pursue a career in dental hygiene? Our Pre-Dental Hygiene Internship Program offers an immersive, hands-on experience in a general dental practice, where you’ll be exposed to a wide range of patient care scenarios across various age groups.This internship is ideal for students preparing to apply to dental hygiene school who want to build clinical and interpersonal skills in a professional dental environment. Interns work closely with experienced dental hygienists and assistants, gaining insight into the daily responsibilities and routines of a modern general practice.
Program Structure
- Duration: May 20 – August 14, 2025
- Orientation: Mandatory full-day orientation on May 20
- Time Commitment: Interns must be available for the majority of the internship period (maximum of 5 excused absences)
- Training: 2–3 weeks of structured onboarding and training at the start of the internship
- Supervision: Daily mentorship and oversight from licensed dental hygienists and assistants
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Preparation & Comfort: Assist in preparing patients for hygiene visits and help create a calm and welcoming atmosphere for individuals of all ages.
- Clinical Support: Set up hygiene operatories, take x-rays, assist with charting, and observe or support various hygiene procedures.
- Infection Control: Uphold strict sterilization and disinfection protocols to ensure a safe, hygienic practice for patients and staff.
Skills You’ll Develop
- Patient Communication: Learn how to build rapport and educate patients across age groups on oral hygiene and preventive care.
- Time and Workflow Management: Understand how to efficiently manage room turnover and maintain appointment schedules in a busy practice.
- Technology Use: Become familiar with digital dental software, X-ray systems, intraoral cameras, and other tools used in daily hygiene care.
