Entry-Level Flooring Sales Consultant – Residential
Position Summary
The Entry-Level Flooring Sales Consultant supports mid- to high-end residential customers through a consultative flooring sales experience in both the showroom and customers’ homes. This role focuses on learning premium flooring products, delivering a polished and professional customer experience, and accurately documenting job details, measurements, and quotes using the company's flooring and sales systems. This position is well-suited for individuals interested in developing a long-term career in residential design, home improvement, or specialty retail sales.
Key Responsibilities
Showroom Sales & Client Consultation
- Welcome and assist residential customers in a professional, design-focused showroom environment
- Learn to guide customers through mid- to high-end flooring options, including hardwood, luxury vinyl, waterproof flooring, carpet, and other custom solutions
- Communicate product features, design considerations, quality differences, and installation expectations
- Support senior sales consultants and the leadership team while developing consultative selling skills
In-Home Consultations & Measurements
- Travel to customer homes to perform flooring measurements after training
- Observe and learn how to evaluate site conditions, subfloors, transitions, and installation complexity
- Maintain a professional and respectful presence in customers’ homes
- Collect detailed measurements, photos, and project notes for accurate quoting
Quoting, Systems & Job Tracking
- Learn and consistently use company's flooring and sales systems to:
- Enter and maintain customer profiles
- Document measurements, job scope, and design preferences
- Prepare detailed quotes reflecting materials, labor, and job costs
- Track project status from quote through completion
- Ensure accuracy and attention to detail appropriate for high-value residential projects
Customer Experience
- Deliver a polished, service-oriented experience aligned with mid- to high-end residential expectations
- Communicate clearly, promptly, and professionally with customers and internal teams
- Assist in resolving questions or concerns with guidance from senior staff
Qualifications & Requirements
- Entry-level role; previous experience in customer service, retail, design, or home improvement is a plus
- Strong interest in residential flooring, interior design, or construction-related sales
- Willingness to learn premium flooring materials, installation standards, and measurement techniques
- Professional communication skills and attention to detail
- Comfort using computers and learning specialized flooring and sales software
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Ability to travel locally to customer homes
Physical & Schedule Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a showroom setting
- Ability to bend, kneel, and take detailed measurements in residential spaces
- Flexible schedule, including possible evenings or weekends to meet client needs
Training & Development Expectations
First 3 Months
- Learn company products, focusing on flooring materials types and quality differences
- Become familiar with showroom processes and customer service standards
- Begin training on flooring sales and quoting systems, including customer data entry and job documentation
- Shadow experienced sales consultants during showroom interactions and in-home visits
- Assist with basic quotes and customer follow-ups under supervision
6 Months
- Independently assist showroom customers with product selection and initial consultations
- Perform in-home measurements for simple residential projects with minimal supervision
- Accurately enter measurements and job details into flooring systems to generate accurate quotes
- Demonstrate understanding of installation basics, timelines, and common job challenges
12 Months
- Perform in-home measurements for residential projects of average complexity with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate strong product knowledge and the ability to recommend solutions based on design, lifestyle, and budget
- Maintain high accuracy in system documentation, job costing, and customer communication
- Consistently deliver a premium customer experience and contribute to sales growth
