Position Summary
The Data Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, accessibility, and strategic use of organizational data. This position is responsible for collecting, standardizing, managing, analyzing, reporting, and visualizing data to support decision-making, operational efficiency, and performance-based initiatives. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, technically proficient, and passionate about transforming raw data into actionable insights that will support Penn-Mar’s mission of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to live courageously in pursuit of their best life.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, understand, and document business requirements.
- Connect to data sources, import data, and transform data for Business Intelligence.
- Collect and preprocess data from different sources.
- Develop visual reports, dashboards, and KPI scorecards using Power BI.
- Create analytic solutions through Power BI platform.
- Serve as the primary contact with data consultants and platforms.
- Follow established security policies and procedures to ensure appropriate access following the principle of least privilege.
- Data Maintenance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain data accuracy and integrity within application and BI systems.
- Support data cleansing and data validation processes to ensure high-quality analysis.
- Perform regularly scheduled data update, maintenance, and verification tasks.
- Data Standardization
- Enforce company-wide data standardization based on the Data Dictionary and Data Entry Guidelines.
- Coordinate data clean-up efforts within the organization.
- Educate the organization on the importance of standardized data.
- Data Governance
- Serve as contributing member of the Data Strategy and Data Governance Workgroups.
- Lead and manage the cross-functional Data Management Workgroup and Data Team.
- Develop, update, publish, and educate the organization on data-related policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Complete assigned HIPAA and security related tasks in a timely manner per Tech policies and procedures.
- Data Literacy and Culture
- Promote and educate the company to become a data-driven organization.
- Assist in development and implementation of data-driven strategies.
- Provide Power BI training to end-users.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, information systems, or a related field, plus 2+ years of experience in data management, analysis, or business intelligence roles.
- OR: Associate’s degree in data science, computer science, information systems, or a related field, plus 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and data gateway configuration.
- Familiarity with database and data warehousing concepts and tools.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new data tools and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Cognos Business Intelligence (or UKG Pro BI) platform
- Certification in Power BI or data analytics.
- Experience in social or human services and the non-profit sector.
- Knowledge of HIPAA data governance framework.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 per year
