Position Overview:
Competitive Range Solutions is seeking a Mid-Level SATCOM Solutions Architect – RF Engineer to provide engineering, integration, and technical support for advanced satellite communications systems across strategic and tactical mission environments. This role requires hands-on expertise in RF engineering, SATCOM architectures, Teleport systems, modem technologies, and secure communications infrastructure.Mid-level professionals in this category apply specialized knowledge to complex assignments, exercise originality in developing solutions, and operate with significant autonomy.
The position may include supervisory responsibilities and requires the ability to guide and mentor junior personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
RF & SATCOM Engineering
- Support requirements analysis, architecture development, modeling, simulation, and engineering activities related to Teleport SATCOM resources, RF systems, modems, networking, and IA infrastructure.
- Install, configure, operate, align, and conduct performance testing on satellite communications equipment.
- Install and operate tactical satellite antenna systems supporting diverse operational requirements.
System Security & Maintenance
- Install, operate, and perform preventive maintenance checks and services on satellite communication security systems.
- Identify and report electronic jamming or deception activities and apply appropriate electronic countermeasures.
- Perform direct support maintenance, alignment, and control functions on assigned RF and SATCOM equipment.
Network Operations
- Execute complex and multifaceted tasks associated with stressed and unstressed network operations across MILSATCOM, COMSATCOM, terrestrial, and mobile networks.
- Compile system and network performance statistics for technical reports and operational assessments.
Leadership & Technical Support
- Provide technical assistance and mentorship to subordinates engaged in SATCOM system operations and maintenance.
- Ensure availability of backup equipment, spares, and repair parts to sustain continuous system operations.
- Operate with appreciable latitude in developing methodologies and presenting solutions to technical challenges.
Qualifications/Experience:
- 3–7 years of experience in RF engineering, SATCOM systems, or related communications fields.
- Demonstrated experience with Teleport SATCOM resources, RF systems, modems, and secure communications infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of SATCOM architectures, including MILSATCOM, COMSATCOM, and tactical communications systems.
- Hands-on experience with RF alignment, antenna systems, and SATCOM performance testing.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex RF and SATCOM issues in operational environments.
- Experience supervising or guiding junior personnel.
- Ability to work independently and innovate in developing technical solutions.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must have a valid Passport.
- Government issued Top Secret clearance required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with modeling and simulation tools for RF or SATCOM systems.
- Familiarity with protected SATCOM systems (AEHF, WGS) and DoD Teleport architectures.
- Industry certifications such as Security+, CCNA, or RF/SATCOM OEM training.
- Prior military SATCOM or DoD communications experience.
