Reporting to the Manager, Electronics Manufacturing Engineering, the SMT Manufacturing Engineering Intern will contribute to process improvements, library standardization, and equipment optimization within the SMT area.
This role suits a detail‑oriented student seeking hands‑on experience with PCB assembly, AOI systems, and manufacturing workflows while collaborating with engineers and technicians to strengthen process stability, documentation, and overall SMT efficiency.
Data Skills/Qualifications/Education:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Comfort with data analysis tools (Excel; Python or MATLAB an asset) and SPC concepts.
Responsibilities:
- Refresh and validate Parmi AOI libraries to improve inspection accuracy as PCBAs cycle through production.
- Standardize Siplace Component Shapes with Altium part definitions and update existing boards to eliminate repeated corrections and reduce programming time.
- Optimize LPKF laser depaneling by improving cycle times and standardizing tool naming conventions.
- Enhance laser fixture designs with poka‑yoke features such as engraved identifiers and fiducial/orientation markers to reduce handling errors.
- Document and standardize solder paste printer parameters to address drift from troubleshooting adjustments and strengthen process consistency.
- Debug and update 2D AOI libraries by correcting outdated reference images and component definitions.
Steel-Toed Boots Requirement:
Candidates are required to wear steel-toed boots for this role to ensure safety compliance in the workplace. Applicants must have access to a pair of steel-toed boots prior to starting employment.
