The opportunityAs a Technical Program Manager for the autonomous materials lab, you will own the execution and delivery of complex, multidisciplinary systems that combine robotics, laboratory instrumentation, software, data infrastructure, and materials science workflows. Your experience and vision will shape both the physical and systematic implementation of lab automation.  You will work closely with Mechatronics, Roboticists, Mechanical Engineering and Material Scientists to to meet rigorous and sometimes dynamic design requirements at a profound deployment speed.

Mission


  • Own end-to-end program execution for the autonomous lab, from concept through deployment and iteration
  • Define and manage technical roadmaps, milestones, dependencies, and risks across hardware, software, and scientific workflows
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including robotics, controls, perception, software, data science, and materials researchers
  • Drive system-level integration of robots, AMRs, vision systems, lab instruments, and orchestration software
  • Translate scientific objectives into clear technical requirements, success metrics, and validation plans
  • Establish and maintain program tracking (schedules, KPIs, risk registers, change management)
  • Identify integration, reliability, and scaling risks early and lead mitigation efforts
  • Facilitate technical design reviews, readiness reviews, and post-deployment retrospectives
  • Ensure alignment between experimental throughput goals, automation capabilities, and operational constraints
  • Communicate program status, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly to engineering leadership and stakeholders
  • Bring an attitude of collaboration and openmindedness, to facilitate fearless and creative problem solving that empowers our team to ship world class technology at an unprecedented speed.

About you


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in technical program management, systems engineering, or technical product management
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary technical programs involving hardware and software
  • Strong understanding of robotics, automation systems, and/or laboratory instrumentation
  • Experience working with engineering teams on system integration, validation, and deployment
  • Ability to decompose ambiguous problems into executable plans with clear ownership and timelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, R&D-driven environments with evolving requirements
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering and scientific disciplines.

Pluses


  • Familiarity with materials science, chemistry labs, or high-throughput experimentation
  • Experience with autonomous systems, robotics workcells, AMRs, or industrial automation
  • Experience managing programs involving vision systems, sensing, or closed-loop experimentation
  • Background in agile development, hardware-software co-design, or systems engineering methodologies
  • Experience scaling prototypes into production or semi-production research environments
  • Prior startup experience or ownership of systems from early prototype through production
