About Somethings
Somethings is building the first social wellness platform for teens — a place where a teen can form a real relationship with a mentor who gets them, sticks with them, and helps them get better.25 Million teens in the U.S. are struggling with their mental health. Every one of the thousands of teens who downloads Somethings is struggling. Our job is to make sure they don’t just show up — they stay, connect with real humans who care deeply about them, and get the support that they need to thrive. We’re backed by General Catalyst and world-class healthcare + consumer investors, and we’re growing like crazy —
in 2025 we grew 1100%, and are on track to 5x in 2026.
If you want to be a part of the generationally defining company in mental health, welcome home.
Role Overview
Our mentors are the lifeblood of Somethings. They’re the people teenagers trust, return to, and grow with. We want Somethings to be the most meaningful professional experience our mentors have in their lives. We’re looking for a Senior User Experience Research to design and build the entire end-to-end Mentor experience — from onboarding and training to tools, culture, and community. This is a high-agency role at the intersection of product, design, operations, and culture-building and requires someone with a passion for user research, prototyping, and driving tangible solutions for users. The work is high ownership, high craft, and deeply human:
You will directly shape the mentor experience that supports millions of struggling teens in feeling seen, supported, and able to thrive.
What You’ll Do
1. Design the Mentor experience end-to-end
Map and build the full journey: recruiting → onboarding → growth → retention
Create programs that foster belonging, pride, and identity
Define rituals, language, and cultural norms of being a Somethings mentor
Design systems that support mentors rather than manage them
2. Lead research → design → implementation
Conduct interviews and qualitative research with mentors and teens
Turn insights into programs, services, and product experiences
Prototype journeys, rituals, and experiences
Work cross-functionally with Product, Clinical Operations, and Community
3. Make mentorship at Somethings genuinely magical
Build ongoing community spaces and learning environments
Design recognition systems that feel real, not corporate
Create the moments that make people say “this is the best job I’ve had”
4. Shape tools and products mentors use every day
Partner with Product and Engineering on mentor platform design
Identify workflow friction and remove it
Advocate for mentor needs across product decisions
Ensure tools maximize presence with teens, not admin burden
Example projects you may own
new mentor onboarding and culture immersion program
annual mentor retreat/offsite experience
mentor identity & recognition system
redesign of mentor dashboard, workflows, and comms experience
Who You Are
4+ years in UX, Product Design, or Service Design
Experience designing services and systems, not only interfaces
Strong qualitative research skills
Comfortable working from 0 → 1 in ambiguity
Able to move fluidly between:
research
journey mapping
program design
product design
hands-on execution
You care deeply about people. You design for feelings as much as flows — belonging, pride, confidence, momentum.
