- We need a Principal Engineering Manager to own a product engineering team—hiring, developing, and retaining exceptional engineers while delivering on an ambitious roadmap.
- You'll be the person who makes engineers better, removes blockers before they become fires, and turns a group of smart people into a team that compounds.
What You’ll Do:
- 30 Day:
- Learn the Vapi platform, architecture, and codebase deeply enough to have real technical opinions.
- Build relationships with your team. Understand each engineer's strengths, growth areas, motivations, and blockers.
- Shadow the current workflow—standups, planning, code reviews, deploys. Identify what's working and what's slowing the team down.
- Partner with product and design to understand the roadmap and priorities.
- 60 Day:
- Own team health and delivery. Your team ships predictably, sustainably, and with quality.
- Establish engineering rituals that create clarity: sprint planning, retros, 1:1s, blameless postmortems.
- Start upgrading the team: identify gaps, open reqs, source candidates, raise the hiring bar.
- Remove at least one systemic blocker that's been killing velocity (process, tech debt, unclear ownership).
- 90 Day:
- Your team is humming: engineers are growing, shipping weekly, and fire drills are rare.
- You've made at least one exceptional hire (or have strong candidates in pipeline).
- Delivery is predictable. Product and leadership trust your team's estimates and commitments.
- You're raising the engineering bar at Vapi—through code review culture, mentorship, and setting the example for what great engineering leadership looks like.

Compensation Range: $235K - $250K
