Overview of Position:
The Senior Accounting Manager is an integral part of the finance team and will report directly to the Director of Accounting. With significant leadership accountability, this role will be responsible for general ledger accounting functions, ensuring compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Sarbanes Oxley (404a), supporting financial statement preparation, SEC reporting and tax returns. The senior manager must have proven ability to thrive in a team environment and be willing to assist other team members to achieve goals and objectives.
Strong cross-functional skills also required with a process improvement mindset, the ability to translate technical accounting literature/requirements and policy into clear requirements for execution, strong change management skills, and ability to take initiative and drive issues through to resolution as necessary.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages general ledger accounting including reviewing or preparing reconciliations and consolidated financial statements
- Supports the Director of Accounting with all periodic financial close processes
- Analyses contracts and accounts, and works with operations to determine clinical and R&D related accruals
- Prepares payroll and intercompany transactions, and related reconciliations
- Supports the Director of Accounting/SVP Finance with equity administration and related accounting
- Supports the delivery of timely and accurate consolidated financial records for internal and external reporting purposes, while meeting quarterly and annual SEC reporting deadlines
- Ensures compliance with US GAAP
- Supports the Director of Accounting with management of quarterly reviews and external audits
- Ensures compliance with SOX, prepares/updates process flowcharts and narratives, and manages testing by an external CPA firm
- Supports Director of Accounting/SVP Finance with SEC reporting requirements including quarterly 10Q/annual 10K tie outs with adequate documentation and support
- Supports SVP Finance/Director Accounting with tax returns and tax provision requests
- Manages the annual EQ AUS tax return and R&D tax incentive claims
- Manages financial transactions with related parties, including building/maintaining processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Develops standards and processes for proper accounting and maintaining best practices
- Prepares reconciliations, entries and analysis while leveraging a strong understanding of various systems including Netsuite (ERP), Certent (equity), Condor (clinical accruals), Expensify (T&E), Bill.com (AP), et al.
- Establishes and monitors financial systems – collect, analyze, verify, and report financial information to document company’s financial performance for management to make well-informed business decisions
- Supports business development and financing due diligence and any ad-hoc accounting/finance projects where required
Candidate Requirements:Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance
- CPA required
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of accounting/finance experience
- Public company experience required
- Supervisory experience a plus
- Biotech/pharma experience a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and ERP software – NetSuite a plus
