Health & Safety Advisor

Your Role:
As a Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll play a key part in CEA CAPA’s commitment to student safety and wellbeing. You’ll work closely with a passionate team to educate, empower, and support students—both before they go abroad and while they’re on-site.Through personalized predeparture advising, dedicated case management, and collaborative problem-solving, you’ll approach challenges with care and reason. Your clear communication and student-first mindset will help make education abroad more accessible, improve the student experience, and ensure safety and wellbeing every step of the way.What You’ll Do:Predeparture Advising

  • Communicate via email, phone, text, or video calls with participants, their support networks, or home institutions about topics such as health, wellness, accommodations, safety, student affairs, and security while abroad on a CEA CAPA program.
  • Review participant Health Information Forms and advise on available services, support, or residential accommodations abroad.
  • Maintain updated international travel and health insurance information, answer coverage questions, and assist with enrollment and reconciliation.
  • Participate in virtual or in-person predeparture orientations, information sessions, or webinars to discuss health, safety, or wellness concerns.
  • Create and maintain engaging predeparture materials to support student success abroad.

Student Case Management

  • Monitor student concern cases and maintain open communication with team members to ensure timely follow-up. Inform students’ emergency contacts of case status when required.
  • Maintain detailed, organized, and thorough case notes and documentation.
  • Support CEA CAPA emergency response through investigation, communication, note-taking, record keeping, or other duties as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Phone Team by being on call for at least two one-week periods per year to answer the U.S. Emergency Phone and relay information to appropriate team members.

Research and Collaboration

  • Create regular reports to identify trends, patterns, and service improvements related to student concerns, global events, and more to inform best practices.
  • Conduct research in higher education and international education related to health and safety to guide CEA CAPA policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Develop materials and assist with organization-wide training on health and safety topics or key areas of interest.

  • Provide support for CEA CAPA projects and initiatives, including first-year experience, custom programming, student support, risk management, and more.

Partnership Engagement

  • Collaborate with CEA CAPA departments on health and safety initiatives, ensuring timely communication, meetings, and trainings.
  • Assist in meetings with institutional partners regarding student cases, policies, procedures, or services.
  • Participate in predeparture orientations, webinars, professional conferences, and events to communicate and promote Health and Safety at CEA CAPA, as requested.

This role can be based in our Phoenix, AZ office or worked remotely from anywhere within the continental U.S.What Makes a Great Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • International study, intern and/or work experience 
  • Previous experience working in study abroad, customer service, residential life, insurance, risk management, or similar experience, preferred.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to reconcile differences in a way that reflects a collaborative approach and sensitivity to different views and cultures.
  • Excellent communication skills and high comfort level with discussing sensitive topics via phone calls, video calls, email and/or text messages.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, execute multiple initiatives simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn, take on new challenges and understand diverse perspectives.
  • Tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity and last-minute changes to what you had planned to do on any given day.
  • Familiarization with Microsoft Outlook suite, Salesforce, AI, Canvas, video conferencing, and online research.
