The ideal candidate is a culturally connected, strategic and multi disciplinary creative leader, with an expertise in graphic design and art direction, and a track record of leading the two disciplines to deliver integrated visual solutions to well-defined business objectives, resulting in visually stunning and effective campaigns across various media (including digital, social, and traditional).  You have a passion for original  and strategic thinking with the ability to translate complex briefs into compelling and innovative creative solutions.You will have an inspiring portfolio of work for best-in-class brands demonstrating your ability to generate brand-driving, break-through “big ideas” that manifest in a wide variety of creative deliverable formats across all communication channels, both digital and physical.  You are a strong storyteller, adept at creating emotionally-resonant visual narratives in stills, video and other new media formats.A hands-on creative people leader, you have a track record growing the talents within your teams, and optimizing their collective output.

Six Month Expectations 


  • Become deeply familiar with Glossier’s brand, with a passionate appetite to become a brand expert, and drive our unique approach to beauty and brand to the next level.
  • Guardrail best practice execution across all visual communication, review and identify existing brand design systems to create an extended brand design guidelines, applicable across retail, ecommerce, wholesale, physical and digital.
  • Leading the development of creative concepts and presentation decks in support of product launches and brand-building campaigns, overseeing all stills and video shoots and the shoot books that guarantee on-set success, and elevating our technical art direction capabilities.Ensure projects stay within the allocated resources and timelines.
  • Cultivate strong relationships both internally with your art directors and designers on your team, the broader creative team and externally with cross-functional partners. 
  • Coach and manage your team, with frequent development discussions; aware of each person's career goals; constructs compelling development plans and executes them; pushes people to accept developmental moves.

Twelve+ Month Expectations


  • Have established a high-performing streamlined, brand design and art direction team, powered by people and processes that set a new standard for creative work that drives business impact.
  • Adept at articulating and effectively communicating the Glossier Creative Studio's overarching creative vision, strategic direction, and specific artistic approaches to a diverse range of internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Create scalable brand design systems and supporting toolkits and processes, elevating our technical art direction and brand design capabilities.
  • With an eye on the future, set the creative gold standard, with in-depth understanding of evolving channels, formats, trends and culture and industry leading creative connections. Develop competitive and breakthrough brand creative strategies and plans to ensure Glossier continues to lead the industry.

Qualifications 


  • 10+ years of Creative Direction experience in full-service studio settings with a mix of brand-side and agency experience.
  • Beauty industry experience required. Masstige-prestige beauty preferred.
  • Brand-side experience working with Wholesale partners (e.g. Sephora, Space NK, Mecca) preferred.
  • Mastery of the creative concept deck genre, with strong presentation skills, capable of selling-in the proposed creative solution to a well-defined business objective.
  • Proven track record leading the development of creative concepts that measurably meet/exceed business expectations.
  • An inspiring portfolio of work for best-in-class brands demonstrating their ability to generate brand-driving, break-through “big ideas” that manifest in a wide variety of creative deliverable formats across all communication channels, both digital and physical. 
  • Expert graphic design skills, with proven ability to lead the creation of brand design systems and supporting toolkits (logos/marks, color palettes, patterns, page-layouts/grids, type-hierarchies, etc.).
  • Experience leading the development of brand guidelines and supporting templates.
  • Expert art direction skills, inclusive of: Technical art direction for beauty (demonstrating product innovation/efficacy), creation of detailed shoot books/bibles guaranteeing efficient use of shoot days and delivery of all requested assets, selection and on-set management of creative partners (photographers, videographers, shoot techs, make up artists, stylists, etc.), and post-production oversight (retouching, color-grading, etc.).
  • Strong relationship-building skills, both within creative teams and with Creative’s cross-functional partners.
  • Strong expectation-setting skills, capable of pushing their reports to new heights, exceeding internal/external partner expectations.
  • Expert use of Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Adept use of Figma, Google Workspace, Slack.

In accordance with the applicable law, the following represents a good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum compensation range for this position:

  • The estimated annual pay range for this role is $175,00 - $210,000. 
  • There may be future opportunities for continued pay progression based on continued strong performance in the role.
  • Full-time positions are also eligible for a competitive compensation and benefits package that include medical health insurance, 401K, equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units, Paid Time Off, Short Term and Long Term Disability leave, and a range of other benefits.
