Job Description
The Associate Director, Tax manages the Group’s global tax strategy, compliance, and advisory functions. The role is responsible for ensuring that all tax obligations are met efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with applicable laws across multiple jurisdictions. The Associate Director provides day-to-day tax support to various business and support functions including HR, Business Development and Legal.Acting as a senior advisor to the business, the Associate Director provides guidance on corporate structuring, M&A transactions, tax transfer pricing including funding arrangements, and tax planning initiatives.
The position plays a key role in shaping the Group’s long-term tax strategy, improving operational processes, managing tax risk, and supporting strategic decision-making through high-quality analysis and insight. The Associate Director is also responsible for liaising with Permira, the private equity owner, with respect to tax matters.This role requires a combination of deep technical tax expertise across all tax heads, a detailed understanding of UK, US tax as well as experience in international tax, tax transfer pricing, tax accounting under IFRS and M&A tax considerations in addition to commercial awareness and excellent communication skills.
Role and Responsibilities
Tax Strategy and Planning
- Lead the development and implementation of the Group’s tax strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
- Devise, implement, document and manage tax transfer pricing strategies including inter-group funding arrangements across the Group
- Advise senior leadership on tax implications of business decisions, M&A transactions and business restructuring.
- Identify and implement opportunities for tax efficiencies, while maintaining compliance standards and minimizing tax risk.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes globally and assess their impact on the Group’s operations.
Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Prepare year-end current and deferred tax provisions for the Group and related footnote disclosures including liaising with internal finance teams and the external auditors.
- Preparation of detailed corporation tax computations for UK and US entities and liaising with external advisors to finalize and submit corporate tax returns.
- Manage tax instalment/payments on account processes for UK and US Group entities.
- Manage VAT compliance for Head Office companies and review of VAT compliance for UK entities
- Manage all group reporting with respect to tax transfer pricing matters including annual updating of tax transfer pricing reports.
- Working with local and centralized finance teams, manage and oversee tax compliance processes across all other jurisdictions where the Group has operations.
- Prepare detailed workings and manage the overall process for the Group’s research and development tax credit claims.
Risk Management and Governance
- Establish and maintain robust tax governance and control frameworks across the Group.
- Evaluate and manage tax risks, providing proactive recommendations for mitigation.
- Ensure documentation and audit trails support all significant tax positions.
- Oversee responses to tax audits, reviews, and regulatory inquiries.
Leadership and Team Development
- Provide leadership to the Group’s finance and wider business support teams with respect to tax.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the tax function.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and coordinate global tax matters efficiently.
Collaboration and Business Support
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Operations to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions.
- Work closely with the Corporate Development team with respect to M&A projects manage tax due diligence projects, developing and implementing acquisition structures, reviewing and inputting M&A transaction documentation.
- Provide tax support and expertise to operational teams including review of sponsor and site contracts.
- Provide expert tax support for strategic projects and investments.
- Represent the tax function in senior management forums and contribute to strategic financial planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
- ACA, ACCA, CPA, CTA or equivalent professional certification preferable
- Progressive experience across all tax heads with particular emphasis on both UK and US tax working with a multinational group.
- Strategic thinker with strong technical depth in taxation across all tax heads.
- High attention to detail and ability to translate complex tax matters into practical solutions.
- Excellent influencing and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership presence, interpersonal effectiveness and good communication skills.
- Resilience under pressure and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
