At Mesa Labs we offer competitive wages, including potential bonus opportunities, equity awards, commission, and a comprehensive benefits package based on the position.Base Compensation Range: $101,500 - $127,000*In addition, you qualify for:

  • Annual bonus opportunity of 15% based on company performance
  • Annual equity award of $14,000

Job Summary


The SOX Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing Mesa Laboratories’ Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program, inclusive of the company’s business process and IT General Controls. This role is fundamental to ensuring the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), conducting risk assessments, and leading SOX-related compliance initiatives. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and reports directly to the Director of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting, with oversight from the Corporate Controller and VP of Business Information Systems.

Duties/Responsibilities


  • General SOX Compliance Program
  • Maintain and enhance Mesa’s SOX compliance framework, leveraging the risk and control matrix.
  • Establish and enhance internal controls and best practices to ensure alignment with SOX requirements.
  • Assist in establishing and documenting global SOX-related policies.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation
  • Conduct annual risk assessments for business process and IT General Controls to identify and evaluate financial reporting risks; update risk assessments as needed in response to changes in conditions at the company.
  • Develop and execute mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
  • Support assessments of access management, change management and data integrity.
  • Audit Coordination
  • Serve as the primary liaison with internal and external auditors for SOX-related audits and testing.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of controls, processes, and audit findings.
  • Monitoring & Reporting
  • Continuously monitor the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present SOX compliance status reports to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.
  • Training & Advisory
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on SOX compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Ensure control owners are well-informed on control design, documentation, and ownership responsibilities.
  • Control Deficiency Management
  • Identify, assess, communicate and document control deficiencies.
  • Develop and track remediation plans to ensure timely resolution.
  • Regulatory Awareness
  • Stay abreast of changes in SOX regulations and industry best practices.
  • Integrate regulatory updates into the compliance framework and internal control environment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with business process owners and control owners to ensure global compliance.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment across departments to address control gaps and implement improvements.
  • Other Projects
  • Other compliance and risk-related projects, as requested by management.
  • Assist management with the annual enterprise risk management assessment.
  • Travel Requirements
  • Travel between local Mesa Laboratories worksites as needed, expected less than quarterly.

Experience/Education


  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certifications
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) required.
  • Experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Financial Accounting, SOX compliance, internal audit, or related financial control experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SOX regulations and internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO).
  • Proven experience working with auditors.
