Hi there! Thanks for stopping by 👋
Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well… you might just be in the right place! We’re looking for a Software Development Manager to join our Engineering team in Sydney. You will be responsible for championing the growth and development of engineering talent by fostering an inclusive, supportive, and high-performing environment. Lead with empathy and resilience, ensuring individuals are empowered to thrive while contributing to collective success.
What you’ll be doing:
- You will be coaching, mentoring, guiding, and motivating a team of hard working engineers from all backgrounds. You’ll be responsible for all aspects of people management—from hiring, onboarding, and training to career development and performance reviews—using practices like effective 1:1s, pair programming, collaborative design sessions, and structured training opportunities.
- Create a high-trust environment that enables engineers to deliver high-quality software through strong feedback loops, modern engineering practices, and a focus on continuous improvement. You’ll maintain stakeholder alignment through demos, retrospectives, and blameless post-incident reviews.
- Partner with product, design, and other business units to ensure effective prioritisation, delivery, and impact of engineering work.
- Take ownership of key engineering metrics—such as PR cycle time, defect rates, and incident response—using them to identify areas for improvement, guide team practices, and drive continuous delivery of value.
- Foster the thoughtful adoption of AI in software development practices, ensuring the team leverages emerging tools and techniques responsibly to boost productivity, code quality, and innovation. Stay ahead of industry trends to bring valuable advancements into the engineering process.
- Continuously refine and champion engineering best practices—covering areas like code quality, testing, documentation, and design reviews—ensuring the team adopts modern, pragmatic approaches that improve delivery and maintainability.
And a little bit of…
- Leading by example with occasional hands-on coding to support the team and stay connected to the technical challenges they face.Â
- Contributing beyond your immediate team to wider organisational objectives, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to take on responsibilities outside the strict boundaries of your role when it helps the business succeed.
What you need to bring:
We're looking for an experienced candidate who has experience with the following:
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing engineers, including coaching, performance management, and career development.
- Proven experience learning from both success and failure, enabling you to make better, balanced decisions grounded in real-world outcomes.
- Deep hands-on experience with major systems in one or more programming languages, ideally with exposure to building and scaling SaaS products.
- Adaptability and resilience, with a track record of building, changing, and evolving practices to meet the needs of a growing organisation.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to nurture relationships across Product, Design, QA, and business teams.
- Awareness of emerging technologies and practices (including AI in development workflows) and the ability to guide teams in evaluating and adopting them responsibly.
- Experience within a similar industry (SaaS, Hospo tech, payments or e-commerce) is beneficial but not essential.
