POSITION SUMMARY
Position Title:   Senior Research Associate, Discovery Biology                     Reports to:  Associate Director, Discovery BiologyStatus: Regular, Full-time, ExemptLocation: South San Francisco, CASummary: We are seeking a creative and highly motivated Senior Research Associate to join our Discovery Biology team at our South San Francisco location.  You will work closely with members of the Biology/Virology, Chemistry, and Drug Metabolism teams to conduct and oversee biological testing of new inhibitors.Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently planning and executing in vitro experiments to identify and characterize small molecules inhibiting viral infection
  • Developing, optimizing and validating cell-based or biochemical assays to support ongoing discovery projects
  • Making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results independently
  • Effectively supporting multiple projects, learning new techniques, and training colleagues as needed

  • Reporting data to multidisciplinary teams of scientists internally

  • Managing compound inventories
  • Utilizing data analysis software and MS Office applications
  • Participating in general lab maintenance including reagent preparation, ordering of general lab supplies, and maintenance of equipment

  • Sc./M.S. or equivalent degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Virology, or relevant scientific discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) / three (3) years of relevant experience in industrial or academic settings, preference given to experience in a drug discovery setting
  • Strong expertise in current assay development, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques, e.g. ELISA, cell viability, reporter, and viral infection assays; mechanism of action studies; (RT)qPCR; plasmid cloning; transfection; western blot
  • Must be comfortable working in a BSL2 setting with potentially infectious agents
  • Demonstrated expertise in ensuring good laboratory practices and BSL2 standards
  • Ability to present basic concepts and detailed scientific data to diverse teams and management
  • Independent, motivated, and proactive cell biologist and/or molecular virologist with desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Pay Range: $102,000 - $106,600 annualizedThe stated pay range for this position reflects the San Francisco Bay Area job market. Assembly Bio establishes pay ranges based on geographic work locations.
