Associate Actuary -- Corporate Governance

This is newly added role within Corporate Governance will have responsibility for ensuring consistent outwardly facing messaging across external parties such as investors, regulators, rating agencies, auditors, and board members. The incumbent will learn about the company’s risk management framework and key risk metrics and contribute to developing and promoting best practices with respect to external messaging throughout the Investment, Risk, and functional areas.Primary Responsibilities:


  • Execute data analysis and/or succinctly summarize investment, risk, and financial results into clear messaging, includes developing effective and engaging charts and infographics
  • Review and identify opportunities to improve the messaging and communication to key external parties to educate stakeholders on financial results, strategic actions, and risk management​
  • Create and enhance communication deliverables for internal and external parties (e.g., board, ratings agencies, investors) to advance understanding of Venerable’s strategic initiatives and increase transparency
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy of themes and content regarding Venerable’s investment/liquidity, hedging capital management​, and risk mitigation across various audiences
  • Develop efficiencies and enhancements around Venerable’s external communication processes ​
  • Assist with facilitating investor-centric meetings by preparing materials, taking meeting minutes, tracking deliverables, prioritizing action items​, and coordinating completion of outstanding tasks
  • Cultivate strong cross functional relationships across Venerable to ensure full coordination​ – including but not limited to Investment Management, Financial Risk Management, Hedge Strategy, Treasury, Legal, and Compliance.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for deal analysis or other business needs and special projects across the Investment & Risk Operations team

Key Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance or related business discipline
  • ASA or newly credentialed FSA
  • 5-6+ years financial, insurance industry, or actuarial experience
  • Strong analytical skills or advanced knowledge of actuarial concepts; ability to use this knowledge to lead/develop solutions to ad hoc requests or issues
  • Leverages strong oral and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal/external customers including experience with PowerPoint and Word
  • Detail oriented and strong analytical problem-solving skills to make informed decisions
  • Solid understanding of insurance products, regulations, or insurance company structure
  • Strong cross-functional teamwork experience is a plus
  • Excellent computer skills: Excel, databases, actuarial projection/valuation software, programming (e.g., VBA, SQL)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
