About This Role
Provides technical support and assists engineering consultants with inspections, analysis and testing with projects involving fire investigation, fire protection, and life safety assessments. Assist in fire scene documentation, component inspection, and testing and research for determining causation. Utilizes the scientific principles, engineering methods and techniques to a variety of projects.Mandatory research project must be completed by the end of the Internship and is expected to require approximately 40 hours of effort.
Research topic will be mutually agreed upon between intern and supervisor.
Required Work Hours
- Internships with ESi are expected to be fulltime, 40-hours per week, from Monday to Friday (Business hours are from 8am-5pm).
- If you are participating in our co-op program – we require that you are taking no more than 2 classes during your employment with ESi and are able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week.
Required Skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Verbal and Written Communication.
- Intermediate skills with CAD and office productivity software. Strong Mechanical Aptitude.
Preferred Skills
Experience Required
- Six months working experience required.
Experience Preferred
- Machine shop and hand tools. Demonstrated familiarity with mechanical and fire protection systems.
Education Required
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Must have completed at least Freshman year. Academic good standing at an ABET accredited engineering school.
Preferred Education
- Major in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Materials Science, or Structural Engineering.
- 3.30 GPA or higher, preferred.
Position Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be able to travel for trips of three days in length.
