About the Role
As a Backend Product Engineer, you’ll design and scale the systems that power real-time voice AI for hundreds of thousands of developers. Your work will focus on reliability, performance, and security—ensuring Vapi can meet enterprise-grade demands while innovating quickly.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement backend services in Node.js/TypeScript (experience with Go or Python a plus)
- Build APIs and infrastructure powering real-time voice interactions
- Drive improvements in system performance, scalability, and reliability
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver seamless end-to-end product features
- Elevate security, compliance, and observability across backend systems
Who You Are
- Strong backend fundamentals, with experience in distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure
- 3+ years of backend engineering, with at least 1 year at a startup (<100 employees)
- Proven track record shipping complex features to production at scale
- Comfortable balancing speed with rigor in system design and security
- Self-starter who thrives in dynamic, fast-moving environments

Compensation Range: $170K - $220K
