Position Summary:
The SQL Developer is responsible for supporting the software development life cycle by delivering data solutions that meet the enterprise's decision-making needs. This includes analyzing reporting requirements, working with the enterprise data model, and integrating data from multiple sources. The role also involves developing reports and forms in alignment with business objectives. Individuals in this position are expected to continuously expand their knowledge of Higher Education systems, ERP/SIS databases and applications, and report development processes under the guidance of senior developers.
Primary Responsibilities, Essential Functions and Requirements:
- Develop, write, and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from various systems.
- Design and create both standard and ad hoc reports using SQL and reporting tools (e.g., SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, or Crystal Reports).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and clarify reporting requirements.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of data in all reports; assist end users to understand data validation and reconciliation.
- Maintain and improve existing reports, dashboards, and queries based on changing business needs.
- Troubleshoot reporting issues, analyzing data discrepancies, and propose solutions.
- Work closely with database administrators and data engineers to ensure performance and reliability of data sources.
- Maintain documentation for report logic, database schema, and reporting processes.
- Support data governance and access control by managing secure and appropriate data/report sharing.
- General development knowledge of variables, arguments, control logic, exception handling, debugging, etc.
- Analyze partner’s challenges and take a role in the design, development and implementation of comprehensive solutions that integrate smoothly into partner environments.
- Document business and system requirements.
- Prioritize workload to accomplish necessary duties and support issues with various teams.
- Adhere to and enforce the appropriate information security policies based on the sensitivity of company data and report any security related issues.
- Reduce risk of theft, fraud, or misuse of information assets by acting as the data steward for the application(s) you administer.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Experience and Qualifications:
- 2 years’ experience of either Microsoft Flows, SQL queries or Visual Studio .net.
- Experience working with API’s is preferred.
- Experience with SSIS and SSRS
- Ability to work in a fast-paced IT team environment.
- Multi-task many projects effectively.
- Solid understanding of development and programming best practices.
- Ability to translate standard requirements into technical tasks.
- Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to adhere to project schedules, project constraints and the prioritization of project tasks.
- Knowledge of Higher Education practices.
- Proven ability to effectively prioritize and manage tasks and activities.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student private information.
Education, Certifications and Licensures:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
Remote/Hybrid Policy:
This role offers the flexibility of a fully remote environment. However, in alignment with our commitment to collaboration and team engagement, candidates within a 60-mile radius of our Chicago, IL headquarters will be expected to follow a hybrid schedule, working onsite 1-2 days per week to support in-person connection and cross-functional partnership.
