Role Overview
Ironclad Defense Works (IDW) is hiring Applied Technology Engineers and Network & Systems Integration Engineers to support NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) in Norfolk, VA. These roles drive hands-on innovation by building, integrating, and securing advanced technology solutions that enhance NATO’s experimentation, exercises, and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Applied Technology Engineering
- Deliver hardware and integrated solutions across robotics, IoT, autonomous systems, radio links, and sensing
- Prototype and fabricate electronic and electromechanical components (3D printing, soldering, PCB design).
- Integrate electronics with software and networks to ensure resilient, secure system behavior
- Apply AI on the edge, machine vision, and advanced sensor integration in practical use cases.
- Document solutions in technical manuals and Confluence, collaborate with software developers and operators, and apply Agile/Design Thinking in prototyping
Network & Systems Integration Engineering
- Provide networking and IT services for NATO exercises and innovation events.
- Design, configure, and deploy resilient on-prem networking solutions integrated with virtualization and containerized workloads (e.g., VMware, Proxmox, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Administer Linux and Windows systems ensuring interoperability with NATO infrastructure.
- Implement networking security measures (firewalls, VPNs, ACLs, encryption including TLS/PKI).
- Document networking and infrastructure baselines, and support cross-functional collaboration across software, systems, and operations teams
Required Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Electronics Engineering, IT, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or Networking.
- Professional experience in robotics, IoT, automation platforms, or advanced sensing solutions
- Experience with network design, administration, and virtualization environments
- Strong skills in prototyping/fabrication or containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Fluent English (oral and written).
- Citizenship of a NATO member nation.
- Active NATO or National SECRET (or higher) clearance.
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with Agile and Design Thinking methods.
- Experience supporting NATO innovation or defense-related environments.
- Ability to travel up to 30 days per year in support of NATO requirements
