Who You Are and What You’ll Do:


You are passionate about life sciences and making a difference to cancer patients, their families, and healthcare providers. We are seeking a highly collaborative team player who has experience in high quality protein production and purification to support discovery programs and clinical candidate selection. The successful candidate will work as a Scientist II in the Protein Sciences & Early CMC Department and contribute by managing the cell culture group to produce various therapeutic protein candidates to facilitate the clinical candidate selection process by implementation of innovative production and purification strategies.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with Research, protein engineering and pharmacology to provide therapeutic and reagent protein candidates of appropriate quality for use in in vitro and in vivo studies.
  • Implement innovative mammalian cell culture strategies to improve production of Probodies, bispecific antibodies and cytokine molecules.
  • Implement strategies to generate CHO stable pools for lead panels of Probodies, ProTCBs and Procytokines.
  • Evaluate alternative CHO cells for the manufacturing of Probody molecules.
  • Integrate strategies to improve small-scale protein production and purification.
  • Collaborate with protein engineering group in the design of discovery pipeline molecules.
  • Solve protein production problems based on scientific principles, current technologies, and personal experience.
  • Participate in cross-functional discovery support teams and effectively communicate information to appropriate groups and protein sciences staff.
  • Develop cell-based potency assays for lead therapeutic molecules to support CMC analytical method development.
  • Manage Direct reports by mentoring and providing career development opportunities.
  • Organize data and communicate results in internal and external scientific meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Protein Chemistry or related discipline with 3+ years of experience in the biotechnology or biopharma industry or BS/MS in Biochemistry with 12-14 years of experience in the biotechnology or biopharma industry

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture is required.
  • Expertise in DNA sequence analysis is required
  • Expertise in protein/antibody production by transient transfection and stable cell generation is required.
  • Experience in molecular cloning, antibody sequencing, is required.
  • Experience in the production and purification of antibodies and bispecific molecules in various formats is required.
  • Expertise in operating the AKTA systems and Tecan liquid handler is required.
  • Should be well versed in therapeutic antibody protein characterization assays including affinity measurements by Octet or Biacore
  • Familiarity with monoclonal antibody generation process is desired
  • Hands-on experience in operating the HPLC, Bioanalyzer, CE-SDS and iCIEF instruments is desired.

Compensation, Benefits, and So Much More 


  • The expected salary range for this role based on the primary location for this position in California is $140,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year. Offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
