Overview of Position:
This position is an integral part of our research team advancing a novel and potent aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) modulator (EQ504). The candidate should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively, thrive in a small-company environment, and manage multiple high-priority projects. Responsibilities include designing and executing pre-clinical and translational research projects, performing cellular and molecular biology experiments, analyzing and organizing data, and communicating findings in team meetings.

The candidate will also help establish laboratory SOPs and protocols. Laboratory work will involve human and animal (mouse, primate) samples. Additional scientific responsibilities may be assigned as needed.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Internal Scientific Duties

  • Performs a variety of laboratory procedures, including cell-based and biochemical. assays, using both new and established methods and techniques under general guidance.
  • Design experiments to address both mechanistic and disease-relevant questions.
  • Conducts experiments, analyzes data, and critically interprets results.
  • Organize and maintain data files, reports, and detailed laboratory notebook.
  • Conduct literature reviews and attend seminars to stay current on topics relevant to Equillium’s research.
  • Communicate results at research and cross-functional meetings.

External Scientific Duties

  • Provide input on study designs for work performed with external CROs and academic collaborations.
  • Assist with shipment preparation and coordination of reagents and/or other critical materials for external collaborators.

Job Requirements:Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with at least 3 years relevant work experience, or MS in related discipline with 1 year relevant work experienceExperience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience.
  • Strong background in cellular and molecular biology, including hands-on laboratory techniques.
  • Experience in biotech industry not required but is highly desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with cellular biology techniques, including aseptic techniques, mammalian cell culture, and cell-based assays.
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques, including RNA isolation, high throughput qPCR and Western blotting.
  • Experience with Human organoids is not required but strongly preferred.
  • Experience with epithelial cells and assessing barrier integrity is a plus.
  • Experience in immunology and flow cytometry is a plus.
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a dynamic, and team-oriented environment.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Some amount of scheduling flexibility in order to accommodate experimental needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to present scientific findings in cross-functional meetings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and GraphPad Prism.
  • Adaptable and resourceful in a cross-functional, fast-paced, “start-up” environment.
