The Company is Studio, an international thematic design and build contractor has an immediate need for a Technical Designer Manager in our Dubai, UAE location. The company has 50 years of experience building themed attractions including some of the most popular rides at the world’s greatest theme parks and we are currently experiencing growth in all departments.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Responsible for preparing and reviewing technical documentation, such as project BIM Execution Plan (BEP), project specification and Materials, and engineering reports. Ensure the design is buildable, ease of installation, cost effective and aligned with project specification. Act as a key contact and collaborate with design stakeholders, project management, designers, and production and site teams. Review IFC (Issue for construction) drawings, design reports and convert into detailed shop drawings for client submission and fabrication. Lead the development of detailed designs and technical drawings, and provide technical expertise and guidance to junior technical designers and design team members, fostering their professional growth. Provide technical input during tendering and construction stages, assisting for BOQ take-off as needed. Planning and Scheduling the work of the TD team, both for the in-house as for the outsource designers:o Develop and maintain detailed project schedules;o Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely completion;o Provide progress data to the scheduling department;o Provide progress information for incorporation into project reports;o Flag in timely manner if additional staff needs to be recruited to meet the project deadlines, and collaborate to find suitable people. Supervision of the TD Team:o Provide Technical Design Direction;o Document and report on technical processes;o Ensure all submitted deliverables comply with ADKS technical design standards, project specifications and project scope;o Ensure all submitted deliverables are in line with the budget (cost of goods);o Ensure all deliverables are buildable and review with the production teams to incorporate their feedback;o Ensure all required fabrication details are provided to the production department. Quality Control:o Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards;o Implement and enforce quality control procedures;o Review work procedures and method statements for compliance with good work practices and client specifications;o Perform quality control inspections during production, implement improvements and educate the team about this too;o Review supplier material certificates when needed and take part in supplier audits when asked;o Reject defective workmanship and materials, as per company procedures when witnessed during production inspections;o Ensure and verify corrective action is taken and recorded on the drawing deliverables when nonconforming work is identified; Resource and Budget Management:o Allocate team members effectively;o Monitor their output (KPI) to prevent inefficiency;o Report any variances or changes to the awarded scope so the project manager can raise a variation order; Client Interface:o Interface with client’s technical team for client reviews, meetings and work sessions to help maintain the technical intent of the projects within the scope of the Company's contractual requirements and needs of project teams;o Identify and resolve any discrepancies or clashes in coordination with other disciplines (AR/ID/CC/ST/MEP); Coordination with Subcontractors and Engineering Consultant:o Manage and coordinate subcontractors’ activities if design deliverables are part of their scope;o Ensure subcontractors adhere to project timelines and standards;o Ensure subcontractors fulfill their quality system obligations;o Challenge the engineering consultants so they give us the best solution: buildable, not over-engineered, price savvy; Progress Reporting:o Provide regular updates on project status to senior management;o Document and report any issues or delays encountered; Problem Solving:o Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise;o Implement solutions to prevent recurrence of similar issues; Team Leadership:o Supervise and mentor your team, promoting a positive work environment;o Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback;o Schedule regular meetings to discuss upcoming projects, departmental needs progress review etcetera;Qualification Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture or related field with minimum 10-15 years of experience. Solid working knowledge in all required software and programming languages BIM TOOLS, REVIT, AUTOCAD 2D and 3D, NAVISWORKS, RHINO, other 3D Modelling software and Project program. Ability to work in high-pressure environment. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills Industry experience a plus.
