Hord Coplan Macht is looking for a strong Project Architect to join our Affordable Housing team. Our next team member will have a passion for design excellence, excellent communication skills, and a dedication to client service. This role is essential for ensuring the client's design vision and budget requirements are met while coordinating the efforts of the project team to achieve these goals. The Project Architect ensures design integrity and coordinates deliverables throughout all phases of the project.This position is open to candidates for our Baltimore office.
While some flexibility may be available, this is not a fully remote position. Candidates should expect to be in-office regularly to collaborate with colleagues and clients and to attend on-site meetings as required.
About the Position
- Develops a thorough understanding of projects’ design philosophy and provides input in developing a design and building performance strategy and effectively conveys this to assigned team members when appropriate
- Coordinates project technical design efforts, subsequent detailed design development, project coordination and quality control efforts during all phases of project work, in close collaboration with Senior Designer, Project Manager, and/or Principal-In-Charge.
- Seeks creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documents to support these solutions
- Actively collaborates with and coordinates work of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure the project deliverables are coordinated, integrated, and support the design concept and performance goals of the project
- Delivers complete, accurate and coordinated project documentation
- Leads the production of schematic, design development and construction documents in compliance with project scope, schedule, cost and design intent during all project phases
- Maintains awareness of evolving building technology and systems
- Reviews shop drawings, material samples and CD’s for conformance with design
- Performs construction administration duties (e.g. RFI’s, RFP’s, change orders, etc.). Reviews shop drawings, material samples and CD’s for conformance with design
- Coordinates project schedules with the Project Manager including HCM staffing assignments
- Manages daily project team needs, including product research and coordination with HCM teams, consultants and contractors
- Fosters a collaborative team environment that mentors and develops junior staff
- Serves as a secondary contact with clients, consultants, and contractors during all project phases, participating in marketing, client and owner presentations as required
- Assists the Project Manager with internal schedule and budget coordination and adherence to contract terms
About You
- 5-8 plus years of experience in the Architectural field
- License preferred
- Affordable Housing experience preferred
- Experience leading document production and sub-consultant coordination
- Strong Revit skills
- Experience in construction administration
- Strong knowledge of building codes and regulations
- Knowledge of the various federal, state, and local funding sources and application processes are a plus.

Maryland Statement
The projected base salary for this full-time position is $75,000-$105,000. Hord Coplan Macht’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, as well as the individual’s education, experience, and skillsets. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of HCM’s total compensation package for employees.
