The Associate General Counsel role will manage high-volume legal requests (sales, customer success, vendor procurement, security, privacy), support our cross-functional teams, and drive strategic legal initiatives to enable Unanet's continued growth as well as Unanet’s transaction-readiness. The ideal candidate will combine technical understanding with practical legal expertise to protect company interests while enabling business objectives.
What You'll Do
Legal Request Management
- Manage high-volume legal ticketing system for customer success and sales teams (email, Slack, Salesforce legal cases)
- Provide timely, business-focused legal guidance on customer contracts and customer inquiries
- Develop efficient processes to prioritize and address legal requests
Contract Management
- Review, draft, and negotiate vendor agreements, NDAs, and other commercial contracts
- Support partner team with partner agreements and relationship management
- Maintain and update contract templates to reflect current business needs and legal requirements
Intellectual Property & Compliance
- Manage IP portfolio including trademarks, open-source code libraries, and software licensing
- Conduct and assist with privacy and security reviews for product development and data handling
- Develop and maintain compliance programs
- Create and deliver legal training programs for employees
Strategic Initiatives
- Support M&A activities including due diligence, integration, and post-acquisition matters
- Provide legal guidance on regulatory compliance
- Assist marketing team with IP protection, content review, and promotional compliance
- Collaborate with product teams on feature development legal requirements
Who You Are
- Juris Doctor degree and active bar membership
- 5+ years of in-house legal experience with SaaS/technology companies
- Strong understanding of software licensing, IP, privacy, and commercial contracts
- Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly
- Exceptional time management and organizational abilities
- Self-starter capable of working independently across departments
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cross-departmental projects simultaneously
- Strong project completion focus and follow-through
- Proficiency with legal technology platforms (Ironclad, Zip, DataGrail, GC AI, etc.)

Your First 90 Days
Days 1-30: Orientation & Foundation
- Complete comprehensive onboarding process and legal department orientation
- Meet with key stakeholders across all departments (sales, customer success, product, marketing, partner team)
- Review existing contract templates, processes, and legal request workflows
- Familiarize with current legal technology platforms (Ironclad, Zip, DataGrail, GC AI, etc.)
- Shadow General Counsel on ongoing matters and strategic initiatives
- Review IP portfolio including current trademark registrations and open-source code libraries, AI models and vendors
- Understand current compliance programs and regulatory requirements
- Complete initial assessment of legal request ticketing system volume and priorities
Days 31-60: Integration & Assessment
- Assess and evaluate current AI legislation and impact on Unanet business
- Assess current compliance programs and identify improvement opportunities
- Start participating in cross-departmental meetings and legal training delivery planning
- Review and update contract templates to reflect current business needs and legal requirements
- Conduct initial privacy and security reviews for ongoing product development initiatives
- Establish efficient processes to prioritize and address high-volume legal requests
Days 61-90: Full Engagement & Strategic Contribution
- Assume joint responsibility for high-volume legal request management across all departments
- Lead contract negotiations with vendors and partners independently
- Propose and implement process improvements for legal operations efficiency
- Contribute actively to strategic legal initiatives and transaction-readiness efforts
- Begin managing partner agreements and relationship support for partner team
- Support marketing team with IP protection, content review, and promotional compliance
- Collaborate with product teams on feature development legal requirements and regulatory compliance

The salary range for this opportunity is $170,000- $210,000 per year. You will be eligible for employee equity as well as discretionary bonus compensation, subject to plans that may be in effect from time to time. You will further be eligible to participate in Unanet’s employee benefits plans and programs.
