The Role


  • The Platform team, known internally as BASS owns a wide swath of foundational components and infrastructure used by all teams including: the secret store, the build system, group provisioning, and distributed job execution. The team partners with other feature teams to provide support for projects that require depth in understanding of infrastructure - from evaluation to provisioning to maintenance. The team manages the evolution of the tools used in the architecture to keep up with developments in the industry and best practices. The team owns security concerns like SOC2 compliance, and managing updates to address security vulnerabilities.
  • Technology we use:
  • Open-source large-scale data engines such as Spark, Trino, Athena, and Kafka
  • Observability tools like Prometheus, Honeycomb, and Grafana.
  • Cloud-first automation including Terraform, SaltStack, and Kubernetes, deployed across stacks in the cloud using two cloud providers
  • Relational databases, cloud storage, and big data files.
  • You will report to the Sr. Manager, Engineering.

Interesting Problems


  • Ingest and process massive volumes of data daily, blending batch and real-time events to create accurate, comprehensive customer profiles.
  • Training machine-learning models to build customer knowledge graphs, that stitch together data from different systems to provide a unified view of each customer while improving algorithms for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Turn the latest research algorithms into reliable, high-scale production systems, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in data processing and analytics through rapid iterative development and optimization.
  • Empower users with complex, real-time querying capabilities, helping them obtain meaningful insights from aggregated data with.
  • Build deep integrations with industry-leading platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, and multiple paid-media connectors, ensuring our solutions fit into the broader data ecosystem.
  • Deliver enriched data assets and insights to diverse systems, helping our clients unlock new value from their data.
  • Create intuitive, powerful user experiences that help our customers create insights, and measure results.
  • Build and nurture teams that support each other across a distributed working environment, embodying our values of trust, innovation, curiosity, and accountability.

About You


  • Eight or more years of full-time professional programming experience and a Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM fields
  • Five or more years experience working with large-scale distributed computing systems on a major cloud provider like AWS or Azure. Experience with distributed computing technologies like Spark.
  • Experience with infrastructure development and deployment using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM Templates
  • Experience with a platform-level team whose customers are other developers
  • Excited about using functional languages in a production environment, such as Clojure.
  • Collaborative, inclusive, and inspired by your customers' success.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab)

Location


Seattle, WA 


Our hybrid work model includes three days in the office each week, providing a mix of in-person collaboration and remote flexibility.

Compensation


Base Salary:  $170,000-$230,000.

Within our pay range, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, experience, and education/training. 

Cash Incentives:

Cash incentives are also available.

Stock Options:
