Position Overview
We are seeking an Experienced Lead Estimator to join our growing Preconstruction team, specializing in multi-family new construction projects with a focus on HVAC and plumbing systems. The Lead Estimator will play a critical role in overseeing the estimating process from initial project review through final bid submission, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with company standards. This position requires deep knowledge of mechanical systems, strong leadership, and the ability to manage complex projects under tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full estimating process for multi-family HVAC and plumbing projects.
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and project requirements to develop detailed cost estimates.
- Prepare accurate takeoffs, budgets, and competitive bids.
- Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare and issue Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify drawings and specifications.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and the preconstruction team.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and support staff.
- Maintain up-to-date cost databases, historical pricing, and bid documentation.
- Represent the company professionally in client, vendor, and subcontractor communications.
- Track and follow up on bid opportunities, ensuring timely and thorough submissions.
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in construction estimating, with emphasis on HVAC and plumbing.
- Proven experience with multi-family new construction projects.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in estimating software (Bluebeam, Trimble, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with construction project management platforms (Procore, Building Connected, etc.).
- Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Leadership experience mentoring or managing a small team of estimators is preferred.
