Based in the Washington, D.C. Metro area, 
Pivot Path Solutions, LLC is a government contracting and business solutioning firm that offers enterprise IT solutions, strategic planning, organizational development, and medical research and development services to help customers adapt and thrive in changing market conditions. Pivot Path Solutions is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) to support database operations, security, compliance, and backup/recovery requirements. The DBA will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of enterprise databases, while providing technical support to application teams and end users.

This role requires strong knowledge of database management systems, federal security standards (e.g., FISMA), and best practices in performance tuning and data protection.

Key Responsibilities


Database Operations and Maintenance


  • Perform scheduled maintenance, including backups, patches, updates, and performance optimization.
  • Monitor database performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and automate routine tasks using scripts.
  • Maintain comprehensive database documentation and participate in change management processes.
  • Conduct regular data integrity checks and perform basic capacity planning.

Security and Compliance


  • Implement and enforce database security policies, manage user access controls, and perform vulnerability assessments.
  • Maintain FISMA compliance, including encryption, access logging, and audit trails.
  • Provide documentation, reports, and remediation support during security audits.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and organizational standards.

Backup and Support


  • Design, implement, and test database backup/recovery procedures with documented RTO/RPO objectives.
  • Provide incident response support and coordinate with vendors during database outages or issues.
  • Partner with application teams to troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance database performance.
  • Manage user group permissions and troubleshoot end-user access issues in a timely manner.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator with hands-on expertise in backup/recovery, performance tuning, and security hardening.
  • Familiarity with federal compliance requirements (e.g., FISMA, NIST, FedRAMP) and related audit processes.
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, SQL scripts) to automate administrative tasks.
  • Experience supporting multi-tier enterprise applications and troubleshooting database-related issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Certifications such as Oracle DBA, Microsoft SQL Server DBA, PostgreSQL, or AWS/Azure Database certifications.
  • Experience with database monitoring and performance management tools.
  • Prior federal government or defense contracting experience.
