Through its work, CAL seeks solutions to issues involving language and culture as they relate to access and equity in education and society around the globe.

CAL is located in Washington, D.C. For this position, the employee may choose to work in their preferred combination of in person at the D.C. office in a hoteling capacity, or remotely (up to 100% remote). CAL does not compensate or reimburse candidates for relocation expenses. This position is not open to candidates residing in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, or the U.S. Territories.  


Job Description


SUMMARY


The Production Artist creates high quality artwork in the form of original illustrations, charts, graphs, diagrams, graphic organizers, and infographics for our digital and print media language assessments. The Production Artist is responsible for rendering finished illustrations and graphics digitally in Adobe Illustrator, editing photographic images in Adobe Photoshop, and at times working in Adobe InDesign to create or assemble test forms. Some light HTML and CSS coding is involved.To be successful as a Production Artist, you should be a self-motivated, highly artistic person who is able to adapt to a house style, able to produce high quality work within established deadlines, and able to thrive in a remote environment by working independently as well as collaboratively with members of your project team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES


  • Create and edit illustrations using Adobe Illustrator
  • Create and edit charts, graphs, diagrams, graphic organizers, and infographics using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Modify and edit photographic stock photo images using Adobe Photoshop
  • Create and edit various print media documents using Adobe InDesign
  • Some light HTML and CSS coding
  • Successfully meet multiple deadlines
  • Collaborate with content team to maximize synergy between the content and graphic support
  • Self-review work to ensure quality and accuracy

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Associates’ or Bachelors’ degree in Graphic Design or Illustration (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is required
  • Proven work experience as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer or similar role
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience working in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Experience with quality control of his/her own work
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience working in a team environment
  • Experience working in a remote environment 
  • Drawing skills with an attention to detail, a clean, clear art style, and an ability to adapt to an established house style
  • Ability to convey ideas, scenes and objects clearly through digital illustration
  • Ability to draw people of all ages, scenes and objects
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud software, particularly Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Ability to produce quality artwork within established deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Understanding of illustration for educational materials a plus
  • Knowledge of cinematic camera blocking a plus
  • Knowledge of cinematic storyboarding principles a plus
  • Understanding of the principles of sequential art a plus
  • Portfolio with illustration samples required

Additional Information


COMPENSATION:


Starting at $59,500 annually based on a 35-hour work week. This position is benefits eligible.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate. The employee may be required to sit or stand in a stationary position 50% of the time. This position constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment. CAL adheres to ADA compliance and guidelines as a common practice.
