Additionally we help brands and licensors sell online both through company branded and marketplace websites.This role will be responsible for the team members and processes associated with the manufacturing of the goods and services in the designated production department provided by UGP to its customers.  The Production Supervisor will be a member of the Production Operations team reporting to the respective department Production Manager.   This position is classified as In Person, reporting to the Underground Printing HQ at 1476 Seaver Way, Ypsilanti, Michigan.Reporting directly to this position are the team members assigned to the department and shift. This position is classified as a fixedwork schedule, with responsibility for coordinating with direct manager and/or team members in handling relevant urgent action items as they arise, including during non-work hours including coverage for weekend and overtime production shifts as required by the business.

 The first shift is Monday through Friday, 7a to 3p, and second shift is Monday through Friday 3p-11p.  Supervisors are expected to arrive prior to the start of production to ensure all equipment, materials, and staffing are prepared for the day’s operations.Possible future path for career advancement; Production Manager, and Director of Operations.Specific responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.  

  • Promote UGPs core values; show up, work hard, be respectful & honest, strive for excellence, do what you say, and promote DE&I. 
  • Responsible for the day-to-day production activities, including start up and shut down of production, ensuring adherence to production schedules, quality standards, completing and communicating status through the end of shift and in person with counter partners on other shifts to ensure customer orders ship out on time to meet or exceed customer in hands dates through.
  • Responsible for the workflow and allocating labor resources effectively to meet production targets, including ensuring all equipment is running during scheduled production hours. 
  • Responsible for the guidance and support to production staff, resolving any issues or concerns that arise during the production process.
  • Responsible for ensuring all equipment is operating efficiently and reporting to the maintenance team to address any equipment issues promptly, minimizing downtime and disruptions to production. 
  • Responsible for conducting regular inspections of equipment to identify potential problems and implement preventive maintenance measures.
  • Responsible for assisting in developing staffing plans and schedules to ensure adequate coverage for production shifts, including leading weekends and overtime shifts as needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating across all departments to make staffing adjustments based on fluctuating production demands in order to ship customer orders out on time to meet or exceed in hands dates. 
  • Responsible for communicating shift schedules and expectations clearly to production staff, ensuring they are aware of their responsibilities and commitments.
  • Responsible for ensuring that production team members are adhering to quality control procedures to maintain high standards of product quality, addressing any quality issues promptly, implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Responsible for scheduling and implementing continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean manufacturing practices, 5S, and Kaizen events to identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements within the production workflow. 
  • Responsible for collaborating with other departments and cross-functional teams to implement changes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for maintaining up to date UGP Kaizen Whiteboards and completing Kaizen events.
  • Responsible for leading and motivating production team members to perform at their best, fostering a positive work environment. 
  • Responsible for providing coaching, training, and mentorship in support the development of production staff, encouraging teamwork and collaboration among team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Accountable for holding team members responsible for compliance with company policies, procedures, health and safety and standards of conduct, etc.
  • Responsible for implementing training programs for production staff to enhance their skills and capabilities through the skills trackers. 
  • Responsible for identifying training needs and opportunities for skill development among team members and ensuring all team members in the department to ensure compliance with training requirements and certifications.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records on the skills and qualifications of production team members in the skills tracker database. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the skills trackers are accessible to relevant stakeholders and used as a resource for workforce planning and talent management.
  • Responsible for identifying gaps in skills or knowledge among production staff and developing plans to address them through training and development initiatives.
  • Responsible for accurate reporting of daily, weekly and any business related reporting required in support of production, including online and in shop scorecards.
  • Responsible for enforcing health and safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all production staff, including participating in regular safety inspections and addressing any safety concerns or hazards promptly. 
  • Responsible for communication to production staff on safety practices and emergency procedures.
  • Responsible for all supervisor related tasks including but not limited to approving time cards, new hire performance evaluations, annual performance reviews, discipline, approving or denying off requests, etc.

How will we measure success?

  • Metrics on the Production L10 Scorecard vs Goal as set by the Director of Operations Team, including daily production targets.
  • Increase overall production output by impressions, operations, and output by FTE.
  • Reduced errors from production.
  • Completed employee engagement activities measured through Kaizen activities

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of manufacturing management experience, previous experience in customer apparel manufacturing is preferred.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent 
  • Experience managing workflow through delegation and preparation of schedules 
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. 
  • Superior decision making, troubleshooting, negotiating, influencing and interpersonal skills 
  • Proficiency in working with G-Suite Tools, GMail, Google Docs, Google Sheets.
  • Prior supervisory experience, specifically as it relates to coaching, training and/or mentoring employees
