Immersive Learning Designer

Remote

About the Opportunity

As an Immersive Learning Designer – Biomedical XR Training, you’ll play a key role in scaling access to technical expertise for HTM professionals by transforming complex equipment procedures into immersive XR and digital training that’s accurate, accessible, and repeatable. You’ll serve as the crucial link between technical accuracy and immersive design, ensuring each module reflects real-world tasks and standards.

What You’ll Do

Your primary responsibility is to transpose complex medical equipment procedures into structured, interactive XR learning experiences. This involves analyzing service manuals, collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs), and deconstructing multi-step maintenance, troubleshooting, or calibration workflows. You’ll distill this information into detailed XR storyboards for the Unity development team and work closely with 3D artists to ensure models are accurate and instructionally relevant. You will own the full lifecycle of each training module—from initial concept and storyboard development through asset coordination, iterative headset-based testing, bug identification, and final validation—ensuring every experience is accurate, intuitive, and ready for real-world deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Develop Procedure-Driven XR Storyboards

  • Extract and document accurate technical procedures by reviewing service manuals and working directly with SMEs, BMETs, and clinical engineers to document procedures.
  • Create detailed XR storyboards, including step sequences, spatial interactions, technical references, and learning objectives.
  • Align storyboards with internal XR standards, component libraries, and user interaction models.

QA and Validate XR Experiences

  • Put on the headset and systematically test each XR module during development to verify procedural accuracy, clarity, and interactivity.
  • Identify technical or instructional bugs and coordinate resolution with Unity developers and QA leads.
  • Ensure modules remain faithful to storyboards and maintain a high level of clinical realism.

Support 3D Asset Development

  • Prepare real-world devices for 3D modeling by capturing reference photos and photogrammetry scans.
  • Coordinate with the 3D art team to ensure models meet technical and instructional requirements.
  • Catalog and manage a growing repository of 3D-modeled medical devices and components to support current and future XR training applications.

Experience and Education

  • 3–6 years of experience in a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) or Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) role, or as an Instructional Designer with a focus on technical, device-based, or systems-level training.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply OEM service documentation, including identifying gaps and asking the right questions when documentation is incomplete.
  • Experience collaborating with SMEs, field engineers, or service teams to document procedures and translate them into structured learning content.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and investigative skills—you know how to spot missing information, ask the right questions, and source accurate answers whether through manuals, conversations, or hands-on equipment inspection.
  • Familiarity with XR/VR, immersive media, or 3D learning environments is a plus, but comfort with emerging tools and a learner’s mindset is essential.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with headset-based XR platforms (VR/MR).
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry scanning tools or 3D capture techniques.
  • Previous involvement in QA, testing, or validation of technical products.
  • A background in building training documentation or SOPs.

What You’ll Bring

  • Attention to Detail – You’re meticulous when interpreting manuals, writing step sequences, or verifying headset interactions.
  • Technical Curiosity – You’re energized by complex devices and want to understand how they work and how they break.
  • Problem Solving – You identify gaps or inconsistencies quickly and work through ambiguity.
  • Resourcefulness – You’re self-directed, proactive, and thrive in a hands-on, tool-rich environment.
  • Communication Skills – You can translate technical concepts into clean, usable documentation and communicate clearly with Unity developers and SMEs.
  • Cross-Functional Fluency – You operate confidently between SMEs, Unity developers, and 3D artists, translating between disciplines to align goals and outcomes.

What We Value

  • Act Like an Owner – You take responsibility for outcomes and quality.
  • Serve with Purpose – You care about the safety, training, and impact of HTM professionals.
  • Adapt to Thrive – You’re excited to work across physical, digital, and immersive domains.
  • Collaborate to Win – You respect others’ expertise and build effective working relationships.
  • Challenge the Status Quo – You seek better ways to train, represent, and validate medical procedures.

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive compensation package with salary, incentives, company ownership/equity, and comprehensive benefits (401k match, health, college debt reduction, and more!)
  • Career and professional development through training, coaching and new experiences.
  • Hybrid culture with new & beautiful workspaces that balance flexibility, collaboration, and productivity.
