Purpose


:


The Senior Principal Architect is the senior-most architectural authority within the organization, responsible for shaping and guiding the enterprise technology vision, leading architecture practices across the bank, and ensuring that IT solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with business goals. This role oversees the Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, and Security Architecture functions and works directly with delivery managers, technical leads, and engineering teams. The Senior Principal Architect ensures that engineering and delivery teams have clear blueprints, reusable patterns, and architectural guardrails that promote consistency, innovation, and quality at scale.

This individual is not only a strategic thinker but also a seasoned engineer capable of hands-on collaboration, mentoring, and translating complex technical landscapes into actionable plans.The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by persons assigned to the job. Specific Responsibilities


:


Architectural Leadership & Strategy


Define and evolve the enterprise architecture strategy and reference architectures for application, data, integration, cloud, and security domains. Lead the development and governance of architectural standards, patterns, and principles across teams and platforms. Provide architecture oversight for strategic initiatives, major system designs, and modernization programs.

Enterprise Architecture


Build and maintain current and future-state architecture blueprints for major business and IT domains. Review and analyze the architecture of existing business applications and integration layers. Identify opportunities for reuse, consolidation, and shared services (e.g., UI templates, APIs, authentication frameworks).

Solution Architecture


Guide solution architects and technical leads in creating scalable, maintainable, and secure designs for product value streams. Oversee end-to-end solution design for critical initiatives with a clear phased roadmap. Align architectural decisions with product goals, technical capabilities, and business outcomes.

Application Security Architecture


Provide architectural leadership in designing secure application frameworks and patterns across all stages of the software development lifecycle. Ensure robust authentication, authorization, and data protection mechanisms are consistently applied in application designs. Collaborate with Security Engineers and product teams to proactively identify, prioritize, and drive resolution of application-level vulnerabilities. Define standards and provide guidance for secure coding practices, secure configuration management, and application hardening techniques.

Support threat modeling, security design reviews, and security testing processes to ensure secure application delivery. Align application security architecture with enterprise risk posture, compliance requirements, and evolving threat landscapes.

Engineering Alignment


Partner with technical leads, senior engineers, and delivery managers to ensure architectural guidance is actionable and applied. Promote architectural awareness and understanding across engineering teams. Drive technical excellence through mentorship, code review guidance, and proof-of-concept development.

Mentorship & Coaching


Serve as a coach and mentor to solution architects, security architects, and senior engineers, fostering architectural thinking and career growth. Create development plans, conduct regular coaching sessions, and help elevate technical leadership capabilities across the organization. Build a strong talent pipeline by nurturing future leaders within architecture and engineering.

Collaboration & Governance


Establish architecture governance forums and participate in architectural reviews and approval boards. Collaborate cross-functionally with product, infrastructure, security, and delivery teams to ensure cohesive technical strategies. Provide leadership updates and influence technical decision-making at executive and cross-functional levels.

Position Requirements


:


  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, and/or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years in software engineering or architecture roles with increasing scope and influence.
  • Experience leading enterprise architecture and/or solution design for complex systems and modern platforms (e.g., Azure, microservices, APIs).
  • Proven ability to work across domains including application, data, security, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with modern programming languages, cloud technologies, and software development tools.  
  • Experience in leading teams and collaborating with product management, UX/UI, and other stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of modern software architecture practices, cloud-native principles, DevSecOps, and agile delivery models.
  • Strong grasp of architectural modeling techniques, frameworks, and tools.
  • Skilled communicator able to translate technical vision to diverse audiences.
  • Track record of mentoring architects, engineers, and technical leaders.
  • Business-minded: able to connect technical strategy to measurable business value.
  • The ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment.
  • Must not have been convicted of any civil or criminal charge that would suggest a risk to Bank security.
  • Ability to work full-time.
  • Ability to uphold and model the Bank’s Guiding Principles.

Hiring Range: $154,000 - $182,000Hiring ranges reflect the base salary that the Bank reasonably expects to pay for a given role and is not inclusive of annual incentive award opportunities, retirement benefits or the value of other health and welfare or other ancillary benefits. We consider many factors when determining base salaries such as individual background and experience, the competitive environment, education, particular skill set(s), and industry and institutional knowledge.
