Position Overview:

The Systems Administrator I provides server administration and system maintenance in support of Garrison Directorate of Public Works (DPW) IT operations at Ft. Bragg. This role is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, including web, email, storage, and collaboration systems, while ensuring compliance with Army IT security and performance standards.
The Systems Administrator I plays a key role in server performance optimization, security enforcement, and data integrity management to support Garrison DPW and other mission-critical Army IT services.

Minimum Experience Requirements:


  • 1+ year of experience in system administration of network-attached storage (NAS), storage area networks (SAN), email services, collaboration platforms, and enterprise file/print servers.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server, Linux administration, and virtualized server environments.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Microsoft Exchange Mail Server, Active Directory, and IT security policies.
  • Ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize IT system performance in compliance with Army cybersecurity guidelines.
  • Familiarity with system backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and ITSM best practices.

Key Responsibilities:


Server Administration & IT Operations

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows/Linux servers, including web, file, print, and mission-critical application servers.
  • Perform operating system upgrades, patch management, and security updates in accordance with Army IT policies.
  • Monitor and optimize server performance, network traffic, and system resource utilization.
  • Ensure workstation/server data integrity by evaluating and implementing appropriate hardware/software solutions.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive IT configuration database and system documentation library.

Storage & Email Administration

  • Administer and maintain network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN) infrastructure.
  • Configure, maintain, and update Microsoft Exchange Mail Server, ensuring compliance with Army email security standards.
  • Manage email account creation, permissions, and encryption policies for secure communications.
  • Set up and configure PCs for local email host administration, ensuring proper antivirus protection and system security compliance.

System Security & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with DoD RMF, DISA STIGs, IAVM security directives, and Army cybersecurity policies.
  • Implement access control measures, endpoint security configurations, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Regularly audit server logs, security policies, and IT access controls to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Enforce system hardening and network segmentation best practices to protect Army IT assets.

Technical Documentation & Support

  • Maintain detailed records of IT system configurations, performance metrics, and incident response logs.
  • Assist in preparing system status reports, IT assessments, and cybersecurity compliance documentation.
  • Provide technical support to IT users, troubleshooting issues related to server access, email, and network connectivity.

Other Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working in DoD IT environments, including network administration and security enforcement.
  • Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) frameworks, Army IT security policies, and IT operational best practices.
