NOVA Engineering is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented
Construction
Materials Technician
to support both field and laboratory operations related to construction materials testing in the Fort Myers, FL metropolitan statistical area (MSA). This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, and contributing to infrastructure quality and safety.
The individual will be responsible for the following:
Field Duties:
- Collect samples from active construction sites for lab analysis.
- Conduct field tests such as nuclear density gauge readings, slump tests, and air content measurements.
- Observe and document construction practices to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Communicate findings to project managers, engineers, and contractors.
Laboratory Duties:
- Prepare and test construction materials including concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and soils.
- Perform compressive strength testing, gradation analysis, moisture-density testing, and other standard procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of test results and ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, and FDOT standards.
- Calibrate and maintain lab equipment and ensure a clean, organized work environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred.
- Experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical work, or related field is a plus.
- Familiarity with ACI and FDOT testing procedures (certifications preferred but not required).
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in varying conditions, and travel to job sites.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred certifications:
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- ACI Aggregate Testing Technician
- FDOT CTQP Aggregate Testing Technician
- FDOT CTQP Earthwork Level I & II
- FDOT CTQP Concrete Field Technician
