C3 AI is seeking a highly qualified Lead Intellectual Property Counsel. As the Lead IP Counsel, you'll be a key member of the C3 AI Legal team, responsible for protecting and leveraging our intellectual property assets, including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights. You'll lead all aspects of IP strategy, from creation to enforcement, and will work closely with our Products, R&D, and Data Science teams. This is a hands-on role where you will manage all IP litigation and advise C3 AI leadership on critical IP matters.
You will report directly to the General Counsel.
Responsibilities:
- Strategically manage and contribute to C3 AI’s global intellectual property portfolio.
- Oversee and conduct invention disclosure sessions, draft patent applications, and manage patent prosecution.
- Collaborate with business leaders and R&D teams to align IP strategies with company objectives.
- Identify and negotiate necessary inbound IP licenses.
- Manage all IP disputes, including litigations, post-grant reviews, and oppositions.
- Develop and manage the annual IP budget, optimizing investments and costs.
- Educate employees and leadership on IP-related matters to foster a culture of IP awareness and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from a top law school.
- Active membership in a U.S. State bar, with eligibility to practice in-house in California.
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of intellectual property law experience, including 3+ years at a premier law firm.
- Prior in-house IP leadership experience is required.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing IP strategies that have driven significant business value.
- Extensive experience managing complex IP litigation and dispute resolution matters.
- Strong understanding of machine-learning software technology, enterprise software, SaaS, and PaaS.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
