Position: Staff Propulsion Engineer – Quantum Space
Location: Rockville, MD (DMV) Department: EngineeringReports To: Propulsion Team LeadCommitment: Full-timeCompensation: $100,000-$150,000Who We’re Looking ForQuantum Space is redefining mobility and maneuverability in space. Our high-mobility spacecraft platforms support national security, civil, and commercial missions with unmatched flexibility and propulsion capability. We build fast and iterate quickly.We are seeking a Staff Propulsion Engineer to play a key role in designing and delivering innovative propulsion systems.

This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with groundbreaking technologies; from concept to development to on-orbit operations.Where You’ll Make an Impact

  • Own tasks across the entire propulsion system lifecycle, from initial design and analysis to build, test, and flight operations.
  • Collaborate with a high-performing, cross-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Apply creativity and engineering rigor to solve complex propulsion challenges and deliver on stakeholder requirements.

What It Takes

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, analysis, build, test, and operation of propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of propulsion components (e.g., tanks, valves, filters, pressure transducers, thrusters/engines).
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis tools.
  • Adaptability in an evolving environment.
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and mentoring.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment to meet customer needs.
  • Advanced propulsion analysis expertise using MATLAB/Simulink, CFD, FEA, Surface Evolver, and GFSSP.
  • Experience with CAD tools.
  • Hands-on experience in managing propulsion labs.
  • Strong background in risk management.
  • Programming skills in Java, Python, Julia, or C++.
  • Experience developing tanks, controllers, valves, pumps, or other propulsion components.
  • Track record of success in fast-paced engineering environments.
