About the role:


We’re looking for a detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our hardware team and help design the next generation of our award-winning baby monitoring products. In this role, you’ll take concepts from idea to mass production, developing mechanical solutions that are beautiful, reliable, and manufacturable at scale. You’ll collaborate closely with our electrical, firmware, and product design teams to solve complex engineering challenges, improve product performance, and ensure every detail meets Nanit’s high standards for safety, durability, and user experience.

This is a hands-on role where your work will directly impact the lives of families around the world.

What you'll be doing:


  • Lead mechanical design reviews with your prowess for CAD, visualizing the integration of parts and ensuring tolerance loops are incorporated early to minimize quality issues.
  • Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, working with detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings.
  • Design validation tests, write procedures, experiment, and analyze test results based on your knowledge of standards (drop, vibration, thermal, acoustic, optical, environmental).
  • Ensure brilliant cosmetic appearance and in-spec critical dimensions through carefully crafted CMF (Color, Material, Finish) and VAC (Visual Appearance Criteria).
  • Oversee quality control by reviewing FAI (First Article Inspection) and Cpk (Process Capability) studies conducted by manufacturers.
  • Challenge suppliers and partners to deliver the best possible product while respecting schedule and cost constraints.
  • Support marketing and sales teams by providing renderings for packaging and promotional materials.
  • Advise on safety and compliance literature, including warnings and instructions for use.
  • Continuously improve existing products to boost performance, enhance the user experience, and reduce costs.

Who You Are:


  • 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering role, with proven experience using CAD software
  • A plus: Experience in a camera, connected consumer electronics, medical devices or baby/children’s products
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Prior experience with prototyping, various manufacturing processes, and product testing
  • strong understanding of core mechanical engineering principles (mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science) and are familiar with GD&T (General Dimensions & Tolerancing)
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with compliance standards, such as ASTM for toys and baby monitors, UL and CE

This is a hybrid role that will require prospective candidates to be in our NYC office 2-3 days per week


Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 base salary + plus equity and benefits. The base pay is one component of Nanit's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and basic life insurance.
